Well,, the women are off to a rough start but this weekend is a good opportunity to right the ship - vs. Maine at home tonight and at UNH Sunday afternoon - these are two teams also firmly in the bottom half of the league, As I've mentioned before, I think it's time we see some better results from this squad - We're three years into the schollie era and our best player is a senior (goalie Brenon).

Agree. Losing to Franklin Pierce not exactly a good omen for the season.

Maybe there are team members of the U18 team that are now in the HC pipeline.....
Would that not be a recruiting coup for HC. Let’s hope she is getting the HC name propagated as a destination for these talented athletes who may not previously been aware of the HC women’s program, and being part of Hockey East.

I have a niece who's good size and is a very good hockey player, and she has HC on her radar. She graduates two years from now. I think that she is on the HC radar, as well!

Good luck to her, to HC and, of course, to you!

Chu, might that niece be the daughter of my classmate? If so, I'd put in a good word for her except that might be the kiss of death for her chances at HC.

The U18 team has a tournament in Sweden from Jan 8-15. Does that mean the HC team will be coached by the fully capable (previous D-3 head coach) Associate Head Coach? I guess it's a net positive and no worse than the Head Coach being out with the flu for a couple of weeks. It's also a way for HC to get free, all expenses paid international scouting in to view the world's best pre-college women hockey players.

Another loss today at UNH 4-2 Against mediocre competition we were outshot 37-19 - we need to find some W’s on this schedule

We leap frogged the D-1 New England Women's College Hockey Alliance to go to Hockey East. I think the consensus on the board is that moving up as soon as possible is worth it.
HC has the benefit of a prestigious league for recruiting in WH and a less talented league for winning in MH. But instead of the best of both worlds we seem to be stuck in the worst of both worlds. I don't know what the answer is but blaming the facilities seems too easy.

5-3 loss in a winnable game yday at Merrimack - no wins in sight for the next month when you look at the schedule- is it possible that last year’s team was better than this year’s ?

It's entirely possible that our current head coach is not as good at skill development, in-game decisions and/or recruiting as Coach Van Buskirk, which wouldn't be a crime or even surprising. It's very difficult to tell with the division change. Maybe a school like Merrimack is leveraging it's admission advantage better than our selling a higher rated academic school.

Merrimack went 5-24-5 in 2019-2020 and 1-15 in 2020-2021. They are currently 3-8-1 with a 3-4-1 mark in Hockey East play. The other win in Hockey East was over a very good UConn team which is 10-1.

The big problem, as I see it, is that the other teams are better than we are. We need to get better. We will.

The last two men's and one women's head hockey coaches were hired with no head coaching experience. When Peter Van Buskirk was hired to coach the women, Ralph Willard was hired to coach MBB, Anne M. was hired to be interim WBB coach and Bob Chesney was hired as FB coach, they all had previous head coaching experience and posted winning records at HC.
Is there a pattern? Is HC gambling and losing with giving Assistant coaches their first command in D-1, the highest level? Are career coaches better served taking command of a program in a lower division first?

HC led 1-0 most of the way. The last minute open net goals do make it look like a different game.

Outscored 8-1 over the weekend with 4-0 and 4-1 losses to the Huskies - believe the team is off now until the new year - probably a good thing

Playing two games up in Orono today and tmro - tough loss today 2-1 - but not a good sign when you get outshot by a mediocre Maine team 46-17 Sr goalie Jada Brenon deserves better - can we get some offensive support ?

Holy Cross is currently 12 points behind Merrimack for ninth place. There are only ten teams in the conference.
