Welcome to the NEW Crossports Message Board!
Several long time posters – who have posted going back to the early 2000’s - tested this forum’s functionality – including the long awaited Ignore Poster feature - and found it to be a big improvement over the prior board host and we hope you will too.
The growth and popularity of the message board, has led to a large increase in readers of the board. It is read by a number of different Holy Cross constituencies - athletic officials, alumni, fans, students, prospective students, faculty, families, players and former players. With this in mind, please post responsibly.
Over the years the “Rules of the Board” have been limited and have relied largely on self-policing to keep moderation at a minimum. In recent years that policy has become more challenging.
So, with that in mind, there are new features of this board in addition to the previously mentioned Ignore Poster feature. This board gives the moderators the ability to warn posters, track those warnings, and block your ability to post for specific periods of time in addition to outright banning you and your IP address from posting. Those features will be used if necessary.
So a few basic things to keep in mind …
1. Your ability to post here is entirely at the discretion of the moderators. You may be warned, temporarily or permanently banned for posting or behaving in any way the moderators deem out of the bounds. If you don’t like that rule, you are free to start your own message board and post in any way you see fit on it.
2. This is a family friendly board. No profanity. Avoid any words you would hesitate to use in front of your children or your family. Let's keep the tone above that of the proverbial locker room.
3. No soliciting – with the possible exception Holy Cross related merchandise occassionally offered from one poster to the board i.e., it's not a business you run on the side or full time.
4. No spam.
5. Do not sign up under multiple User ID's.
6. AVOID TYPING WITH ALL CAPS...that is considered "shouting" on message boards and is discouraged. You want to shout a word or 2, OK. But please not a full paragraph or more.
7. This is not a rumor board. While speculation is a fact of life on message boards, there is a fine line not to cross. Issues of academic standing, intra-team issues, or personal information unsuitable in a public forum concerning recruits, student-athletes, coaches, or staff are unwelcome and may be pulled without warning.
General Rule of thumb, if you can’t or don’t want to post how you came into the knowledge, even in a general way, and/or sign your real name to the post, you probably should not post it. Posting here is not the same as telling the person sitting next to you in the stands what you “know”/heard.
In the end, if you are unsure and have a question, ask offline first.
The following types of posts are not tolerated and will likely result in a loss of posting and reading privileges at any time without warning.
1. NO calls to rescind a player’s scholarship. Any such posts will be deleted promptly and without warning.
2. NO Personal attacks on fellow posters, Holy Cross players, coaches, recruited student-athletes, or athletics staff will be allowed. Saying a player had a poor game or series of games, made a bad decision, ranks last in the country by some statistic are certainly in bounds. Describing a player as the worst player in America, is not. Any such posts can be pulled promptly and without warning. You may consider the following to be other examples of personal attacks, though not limited to:
a. Comments which seek to denigrate, belittle, provoke, or harass, for example.
i. You moron, has no place in the beginning, middle or end of any post.
ii. Describing a player as a waste of a scholarship
b. Threats or advocacy of violence against any person or persons noted above.
c. Posting personal information about anyone without their expressed consent
3. NO Attempts to impersonate or otherwise use the name of another poster will not be tolerated.
4. NO Posting any unsubstantiated claims that could jeopardize or invalidate an individual's NCAA eligibility or a staff member's employment status can be tolerated.
5. NO use of this board to contact, or to reference contact, with any prospect, prospect's family, or other relationship with a recruited student athlete that could jeopardize an individual's NCAA eligibility or otherwise violate any other NCAA rules can be tolerated..
Thanks for your assistance in keeping this board civil and the best college sports discussion board around.
