UConn ran the opening kickoff all the way back for a score. However, it is now Clemson 10 - 7. late in the first quarter.

Maine finished off the Minutemen like we finished off the Rams.

Don't know for sure but gotta think no other 1A has lost twice to 1AA's in the same season.

Was at the game. UMass scored on the first two possessions, then had a would be TD on the third possession overthrown by maybe 3 inches. After that, they maybe had 100 yards of offense. From quarters 2-4, it looked like Maine was the FBS team. The Maine players weren't even overly excited as they knew they were the far better team coming in

Don't know for sure but gotta think no other 1A has lost twice to 1AA's in the same season. Its definitely happened before at some point. Pretty sure at least one of the Army teams I watched growing up accomplished this feat. Edit: looking through the AWP schedules throughout the 1990's and early 2000's, they actually never lost to 2 I-AA teams in the same season. Though there were several seasons where they lost to one and beat another by the skin of their teeth. In 2015, Army came really close to going 0-2 not just against FCS but against the PATRIOT LEAGUE. They lost the season opener to Fordham and needed OT to beat Bucknell in late November.

Navy went 1-10 in 1991 with losses to both William & Mary and Delaware. The Mids also opened up the 1987 season with home losses to Lehigh and William & Mary. Luckily for them that year, they avoided a THIRD I-AA loss by beating both Penn and Delaware ON THE ROAD.
A transitioning UCONN lost 2 of their 3 games against I-AA opponents in 2000. After beating Colgate 37-7 early in the season, they later played Northeastern and URI and lost to both.

Just wondering, what does Chesney make at HC? and how much of a salary jump it would be to a UMass/Uconn level program? What does an ACC coach make? Does anybody have this type of numbers in their heads??? What would it take to keep Chesney at HC?

HC should refi & take out a mortgage if necessary and pay this man the world. Some might willingly put their youngest born up for collateral.

"We won't raise your taxes unless you make more than X".
In HC's case, "X" isn't probably going to be met; it would be at the other two schools.

Still not close to the GEORGIA TECH WIN OVER CUMBERLAND COLLEGE IN 1916. That score was 222-0 Georgia Tech.

Houston scored 49 points in the 4th quarter which is a post-WWII NCAA record for points in a quarter. They scored the final TD with seconds left on the clock on a punt return.

Still not close to the GEORGIA TECH WIN OVER CUMBERLAND COLLEGE IN 1916. That score was 222-0 Georgia Tech. Theres a record that wont be broken. This game was a little bit of a sham as Cumberland had discontinued football a few years earlier but GT forced them to send a team to Atlanta or threaten breach of contract lawsuit. I think I read that as an act of protest, Cumberland simply punted the ball away on first down every time they had the ball.

I think the story there is that Cumberland had agreed to play Ga Tech but then disbanded its football team. Ga Tech insisted on the game being played and Cumberland scrambled and found a dozen guys at a fraternity who were willing to play. and then, of course, got murdered by GT. GT essentially averaged a touchdown every 2 minutes EDIT: Looks like nycrusader and I were typing at same time

Would be the equivalent of Alabama forcing Hofstra to send its lacrosse team to play a football game scheduled for this year back in 2008.

I'm not sure about the punts, but every time their train stopped traveling to the game they were trying to pay people to come with them to play in the game...amnd several did. Was this an early application of the "travel portal?"

Interesting. Nick Charlton’s wife is from Connecticut. His in-law’s are multi generational Holy Cross Alums.
Her grandmother would often amuse how her late husband, who graduated in the mid 1940’s, would be “spinning in his grave”, if he knew his grand daughter was a graduate of that other Massachusetts Jesuit institution. They both were kind and loving people who intensely bled purple. 😊

Temple opened up as well. Going to be a lot of openings. Not sure Chesney will have any more leverage than he has today.
