Wonder if Lafayette beat Lehigh this move would still have been made.

He was hired in December/2016 so he was given the four full years (and rightfully so IMO) as well as the spring season (4 1/2 years?) and the team didn't improve at all. They weren't a good football team and with 60 scholarships should have been much better.

Wonder if Lafayette beat Lehigh this move would still have been made. No. Hard to commit to a whole new contract based on one win vs a team that would have finished 2-9 if Lafayette won.

I like the symmetry and efficiency of fulfilling a contract instead of a mid-contract firing.

That will depend on what happens next season, don't you think? Yeah, another 3-8 season, you are probably right. They happen to be on a 3 game winning streak and playing better. If that momentum carries into next season, his job will be secure.

Gilmore was hired prior to the 2019 season. He inherited a bad team and had to deal with the covid mess. He should be given four full years IMO.

So as an institution you save one year of salary we will call x and cost 4-5x in donations Tear off the band aid when you know it isn’t going to work I don’t feel better knowing a team is going to stink without a solution, yet hold on to give a coach more time to prove what everybody knows If not for Covid, the Leopards should have pulled the plug last year. Good points. For the most part Covid gave the incumbent coaching seat holders security and froze out the ones caught without a seat when the music stopped. Donations are a murky area to me. Was there any significant decline in FB donations at HC during the less successful second part of TG's tenure from the more successful first part?

I don't see Lehigh extending him unless he wins the PL or makes the playoffs next year.

Isn't your last statement redundant? Outside of last year, the only playoffs a PL team gets into is winning the PL and going to the FCS playoffs.
I don't think Lehigh needs to win the PL for TG to get an extension, probably needs to win at least 7 games total (don't know what their schedule looks like next season) and perhaps a 3 year extension. A winning season (6 wins) I'm guessing a one year extension - sort of probation.

The last 24 hours have been tough for the Garrets. Both the 'pards & the G-Men are a mess. Failure has been the Garrett calling card of late. Now, about Pat Garrett...

Tough to look good as a coach when your offensive line cannot block anyone.
And some of Jones' throws were unbelievably bad. One pass to the flat went right to a defensive lineman lying on the ground.
Neither of those points are intended in any way to excuse some of the bogus play calls.

Don’t want it to happen, but I’d be surprised if Scott James is not in the mix for the Lafayette job.
I could also see Fordham OC Kevin Decker involved. His offenses at Brown and now Fordham have always been at the top of their respective leagues. Offense is something Lafayette could use.

I would be surprised if Scott James were to take a job outside of New England but...you never know.

James has to be at the top of the list should Chesney move on in the next couple of years. I think he’ll stick around for that possibility. Worst case scenario, Chesney gets a bigger job and takes James with him for a nice raise.

That would indeed bu a "worst case." What about gettking both of them more money to stay longer at HC?

Will be interesting if the head coach salary at Lafayette gets bumped up a lot - have to believe Polian has been making much more than Garrett was being paid

Wonder if Lafayette's budget for a new HC has stalled their process - Seems the Polian rumor from ND has quieted down - with early signing day Wednesday, they may lose a significant chunk of this recruiting season
