Vince said they will revisit this policy in coming weeks. See his letter in the HC COVID thread in the in the non-sports subforum. Pretty clear from Vince's letter they have no intention of having any spectators until at least February 7. I'd say the odds on there being any for the rest of the season are 50/50 at best.

My season tickets were purchased for two reasons - 3 really:
1. Support the team/ama mater 2. Inertia- always buy them 3. Enjoy watching the team
But, #3 hasn’t applied in a awhile especially this season. I’m really not broken up if we can’t set foot in the Hart Center the rest of this season however long it lasts.

The infection rate in Worcester City and Worcester County has to drop significantly before the first week of February. Worcester county's number of new cases for the 14 day period ending January 1, 2022 is 15,857. Worcester city's new case total over that same period is 4,050, or about 1 of every 50 residents. The city of Worcester's public health department also has a say in what happens or doesn't on campus.

I know many can't see the HC athletics Instagram but when this was posted. Some HC athletes even chimed in with upset comments.
You think the players want to play in empty arenas?
All they have done is wear masks, get the vaccines? What else do you want them to do?

Despite the following being mandated: double shot, booster, mask, and no concessions...the college still needs to shut things down. Is this going to be the routine when the next variant comes along? Utter silliness.

This is a prudent move by HC. COVID continues to kill people every day, not just unvaccinated people. My next door neighbor is an ER Dr. at Hartford Hospital and he says they are bursting at the seams, a lot of unvaccinated but some vaccinated as well. A 26 year old died of COVID in the ER yesterday. I don't get the anger about this. Wouldn’t the prudent move be then to cancel the season? Just to be safe. Then Coach Nelson could ask for a contract extension to have more time to settle in with "his players".

The Worcester Board of Health probably has the authority to ban large indoor gatherings but I bet Vince made the final call after consulting his team and Covid advisor. I like that he wrote the memo instead of assigning it to another administrator. Who else at HC would be above Vince? The B.O.T. wouldn't have time to make operational decisions like this would they?

Hanover theater is still operating Worcester Railers are still having games.
I don't think this can come from anyone other than the President Rougeau.

While I would have been watching on ESPN+ anyway, the viewing experience would have been heightened by the fan response to HC's strong play and victory. But I'm glad President Vince is involved, decisive and communicative whatever the decision.

Was I the only one for whom the lighting on the ESPN+ broadcast stunk last night? The picture was very dark quite a bit.

Watching PC-St. John's. Plenty of fans 40 mi down the road at the Dunk. I think I heard COVID only spreads at HS, sub-DI and low major college basketball venues.

PC refunding tickets would cost much more than for HC doing so and it's a city (state?) owned arena so I presume the ownership/management of the Dunk made the call not the President of PC. PC might only have had control over whether they played the game or not. Interesting to see if they allow spectators at their on campus hockey rink which they use for women's games and some men's games I believe.

I’m sure there’s something I could do to my TV to make it better. I just don’t know what that is and don’t really want to mess with it.

If the public safety decision is black and white such as no drunk driving, no giving toddlers loaded guns to play with, etc., of course it's not about money. This decision whether to allow fans to attend college games is about a 50-50 split as some colleges say yes and some say no.
In that case I assume all factors are considered before a decision is made while for public consumption it will be about safety first, last and only. The colleges have cover no matter which way they go because their peers are roughly split on the subject.

Just got an email notice from AMEX that I was credited back an amount from Holy Cross which I assume is the cost of the most recent game that disallowed fans' attendance.
A couple of surprises:
1. In the past, SOP was to ask if you wanted the refund or donate it to Holy Cross (CAF) 2. That they are refunding the ticket price right away rather than to see how many games will be prohibiting fans. It would seem the administrative expense of doing it one game at a time would be a waste of resources.

During the Omicron Surge, Amex has changed it's motto from "Don't leave home without it" to just "Don't leave home."🙂
I think experts are hoping this wave will burn itself out fairly quickly like it did in South Africa so spectators could be allowed back in before the end of the season.
