Wasn’t suggesting anything Right now I am not sure what league, outside of the PL, where we might win a game or two in hoops

St. Louis to the Big East is a total no brainer. Would balance the conference with 6 eastern schools (the "original" Big East) and 6 midwestern schools which would reduce travel expenses, especially for Olympic sports. Xavier would probably fight tooth and nail to keep Dayton in much the same way Villanova would fight to keep out Temple if they wanted to join.

Right now you are probably right. The theory some here have seems to be a variation of “if you build it he will come” meaning if we get into a better conference, it will attract better/higher quality recruits.
That theory is being tested in Women’s hockey as the team upgraded to Hockey East. IMO, too early to tell if the theory has validity.

I really don’t see what the problem is with having a rival from your backyard in the conference. I think it makes things that much more interesting.

Xavier has already made clear that it will not accept Dayton. Whether they could stop it or not is a separate question. I suspect Providence feels the same way about URI and I doubt any of the other schools would want URI in the first place.

They want to be known as the top state university in New England and are unlikely to do anything to help raise another school's profile.

If true only StL and Dayton are legit candidates. Fact. Richmond could be a real dark horse candidate but that's about it right now.
