For what it’s worth, it was not a closed scrimmage. The Harvard coach posted a tweet thanking the “several hundred” Harvard fans for coming out to support the team.
The above illustrates a few points: (1) Harvard communicated to its fans about the scrimmage; (2) if you tell them, they will come; (3) it’s pretty easy to communicate simple info via Twitter or Instagram or with a one-line entry on your posted schedule … I’m talking about notice that there is a scrimmage not compiling and posting highlight reels or doing post-scrimmage write ups.
Simple.

I believe it was the 2019 game v Harvard that was scheduled to be played in Worcester, but combo of very low temps and high winds caused them to move game at last minute to Cambridge where conditions were cold and windy, but not nearly as bad as Worcester.

When is it too cold to play ? wintry mix forecast for Friday night and Saturday is snow-free but wind chill temps in the teens Solution Start season later play more than one league game per week This is not football .

I attended the HC PC game in Providence in 2016. Night game. Same date (+/- a day or two). it was under 30 degrees at the start. I was there...wasn't that bad.

They want the championships on Memorial Day weekend so this is the best they can do. Patriot League can change their schedule if they want to get rid of midweek games in March and April.

Simple. That Holy Cross Lax twitter account has been dormant since Jan. 19th and basically hasn't posted anything since December 29th when the assistant coach was talking food. I would say the last time there was any TEAM news posted to that twitter account was November 19th.

Baseball schedules could be tweaked also. The weather finally gets nice and the schedule slows to a crawl after fighting the elements for much of March and April.
I guess final exams play a role but one idea would be to commence with the PLT and have the six teams keep playing right up until the final day the NCAA auto bid must be submitted. The winner could be selected the same way the old eight team AL and NL pennant winner was selected - by final league record, with tie breakers in this case if needed.
This would allow more games in fan and player friendly weather. And not a huge difference between a four team PLT for all the marbles and a six team league season for all the marbles.

Baseball in the PL has an extra weekend (Memorial Day Sunday is the final day for NCAA Baseball bids to be decided) they do not use that weekend.

Yet they will risk frostbite to play in March.

Yet they will risk frostbite to play in March. Agree...They could play the PL championship that weekend. Even do a four team Round Robin over three days.

When is it too cold to play ? wintry mix forecast for Friday night and Saturday is snow-free but wind chill temps in the teens Apparently, there is no temperature too cold, at least in soccer. For some bizarre reason, the USMNT played a World Cup qualifying game outdoors in Minnesota yesterday. Temperature was 1 degree with minus 14 wind chill at kickoff.

Kind of a pathetic and gutless move, but this is a pretty common tactic by the US to play games in Chicago, Columbus, Minneapolis, etc. during World Cup qualifying as it might give them an edge when playing against countries -- Honduras, El Salvador, Jamaica, Costa Rica, et al -- who never encounter weather like this.

Canada and the US are currently 1-2 in the standings for World Cup qualifying so it seems to be working. US beat Honduras 3-nil last night.

I would have guessed LAX was played pretty much only in US and Canada. Unless I’m mistaken, lacrosse was invented by North American indigenous people (I hope that’s the right way to put that).
Not aware the native Americans even played it down south. Unlike ice hockey which migrated to other countries from Canada, I’d be greatly surprised if Canada and USA weren’t 1 and 2 in this sport.

...the conversation morphed to soccer because of the weather issue. I don't even think lacrosse is played anywhere other than the US and Canada; if it is, it's as popular as American football is elsewhere, which is not at all.

I saw where someone said that this is payback for having to play in Central America in the heat of the summer but that is something that is out of those nations' control.

Perhaps payback for Central American countries having security look the other way as opposing players are pelted with objects, including bags of urine. Most countries choose locations for World Cup qualifiers that give them the biggest advantage. Some countries in South America opt for locations that are greater than 8000 feet in elevation. By the way, Canada set up the field for the US game so as to be narrower than world class fields normally are. Thought it would give them an advantage. It was five yards narrower than my local high school field.

Since we are discussing fields and Lacrosse... I hope that Kit will be following through with the proposal to renovate and expand the current Smith Soccer Stadium for use by Lax. As previously discussed, the change of venue from Fr. K. Field should be made for the expected growth of the program under Coach R.
Anyone have any updates regarding the proposed project timelines for the new upper campus softball field and expanded and renovated Smith Stadium?

One can argue that all of this gamesmanship (by any country) is childish and unsportsmanlike, but it seems to be a tradition in soccer.

Providence had a senior heavy team last season. They graduated 7 of their top 10 scorers, losing 138 pts (from those 7) and returning 44 (from 3 returners). Their goalie also graduated (51% save percentage).
PC finished 4-9, with a mostly big east schedule (due to Covid rules limiting play outside of leagues). They also played Fairfield and Bryant. Beat St John’s twice, Marquette once, and Fairfield.
In short, they weren’t a great team last year and they will be relying on lots of guys with limited game experience and production this season.
Seems like a good opportunity for an HC win tomorrow.
