I believe the ‘66 Buffalo game was Parents’ Weekend and, IIRC, a UMass tight end (Bob Mears? Matt Morin?) dropped the 2 pt. conversion pass from Greg Landry that would have tied the game. Second time that season that HC eked out a win on an opponent’s missed two point conversion attempt.

Second time that season that HC eked out a win on an opponent’s missed two point conversion attempt. Milt Morin (not Matt) was the player that may have dropped the pass. He was a first round NFL pick of the Browns and played 10 yrs. and started 98 games

Gerry -- Temple fans are foaming at the mouth at the idea of going back to the A10 in basketball.
If that league adds any more teams, it will soon be the Atlantic 20.
I don't yet see any appetite in Annapolis to leave the AAC in football. But no doubt they have limited scheduling flexibility as a result. They only have one open game every year at this point, and have most years used it to play an FCS team to ensure they get at least 5 home games / season.

I love recalling and rehashing games from what was my senior year and my last semester covering the Crusaders for the Crusader. The '66 game against BU in Boston also rates a mention. Its climax was a remarkable goal line stand in at the end of the game, which preserved a close victory.

I would have loved to have gone to an HC-BU football game at Nickerson Field. So sad they dropped the program. And they'd be the 8th PL football member now...oh well.

It was at that BU game that I got a lesson in sports photography from a newspaperman who was shooting the game.

I recall the Al Banx cartoon in the Sunday Telegram that showed everyone, including a stray cat, help keep BU out of the end zone. As for Nickerson Field, it was definitely an unusual venue with the old baseball stands on one side; high-school-like bleachers, railroad tracks, and the Charles on the other; and BU dorms looming near one of the end zones.

The view of the field from those dorm rooms made them like private boxes. Great place to watch a game.

A stray cat pitching in against the "Terriers." Al Banx didn't miss a trick.🙂

Really good game at Nickerson (albeit a tough loss) was in 1984....we were undefeated (7-0) going in, lost a close one to a good BU team 16-12. Frustrating loss. Paul Lewis was a good running back for the Terriers that year.

If they pay HC to travel, I am all for that. Count me in on a game against Miami, a good school with a real football history. A game at Buffalo gives me the creeps. A 35-3 defeat there was the worst loss of the 1966 season One of the worst losses of the 1970 campaign (winless) was the loss at UBuffalo considering the Bulls then dropped football. They only beat HC and one other team that year.

Old Braves Field. The open stands down the first base line are what was the home team sideline for BU football from 64-97. Hank Aaron would never have hit 755 playing there had the Braves stayed in Boston. Of the old NL parks, it was probably the most pitcher-friendly.

A couple of good pitchers could take you a long way in that park.
