The complaining about the Polar Park game is mind boggling. It was a great event and atmosphere and will be this year.
Quit complaining and enjoy it. Embrace an athletic department that thinks outside the box and isn't stuck in the malaise that was 1994 until Chesney.
Good grief.

Odd (in a lot of ways) schedule next season....we won't have a 2nd game at Fitton until Oct 29. I'm assuming that probably has to make Yale on 9/17 the Homecoming Game. Of the scheduled home games, Bucknell probably does make the most sense for the PP game. I get the thinking behind this game but as I've stated before, I'd prefer temporary lights for one game at Fitton rather than a game at PP. Make the check out to the College of the Holy Cross for the lights rental. Don't you like the synergy of scheduling a night game downtown where the city has already purchased lights? We'd pay the same rent at Polar if the game was scheduled at noon and the lights were never turned on, I assume.

I agree game at Polar was fun, different good crowd buzz, local taverns for pre-game were backed and easy access and parking. Totally fun experience.

More fun complaining about the schedule, Fitton, Polar, etc. than the product on the field; unlike our other "premiere" sport.
Waste of time speculating on whether or not UConn or UMass will play at Fitton or Polar. Or either of those two or BC coming to Fitton.
Unless there's another Luth family with their checkbook open; I think the current incarnation of Fitton will be around a lot longer than most of us.

The city of Worcester should probably work with either WPI or Assumption for an annual game at Polar Park. Their alumni would probably be more grateful for the efforts of the city to form a closer bond between the school and the local population.

You're making that judgement based on a couple of posts here?

I think it's great that HC will play an annual game at Polar Park. I attended the game last year and agree that there was a lot of energy in and around PP and that was a big positive for HC and Worcester. However, I personally would rather watch HC play at Fitton Field. This is not a complaint.

Regardless of team, I do not enjoy watching a football game in a baseball stadium.
The seating in Polar Park, Yankee Stadium, Fenway Park, etc., is not properly aligned for optimal gridiron viewing.

Is an annual game at Foley Stadium being discussed?

No offense. Isn't Foley Stadium another HS venue? Admittedly PP has terrible sight lines. However, it is apparent staging an HC football game at PP generated enthusiasm among the city's leadership. PP is part of their marketing strategy. Also, the HC game is a positive step in fostering better relations with our Worcester neighbors. And, it's fun. Additionally,, it never hurts to build relationships with the Red Sox. Personal contact with Mr. Luchino might prove to be beneficial. Would love to see a return by the Sawx to Worcester tp play HC at PP, annually. It would be great PR jointly for Worcester & HC. Can't hurt.

National Championship level baseball at HC isn't walking through that door. Even though I hope national champion RP,Sr. does for many years to come.

Prior to the installation of the new lacrosse stadium / football FieldTurf practice field at Hart in 2009, Gilmore would occasionally have practice at Foley Stadium in advance of away night games being played on turf. The Wednesday night before our Friday night game at Haravrd in 2008 we practiced here.

HC players loved it, which is most important.
We got a Worcester crowd, for first time in forever.
On campus stadiums and arenas are great for current students, but our students don’t go to games. We have a better chance of getting the Worcester crowd to games where they can grab a bite and go to a game than we do of getting students to walk to a game on campus..

I was not really a fan of taking games away from Fitton when the 1st Polar Park game was announced.
Last year's successful event converted me.
I definitely think we should continue to do this at least every other year, as long as the novelty doesn't completely wear off.

The game will be televised on ESPN plus. You can watch it from the comforts of your home. I’ll have my feet up watching our boys pound Bucknell. 4pm start because Bucknell has a 5 hour drive home.

HC92 has me cramming my maw with donuts. I know, 'never talk when your mouth is full', but I hasten to point out the following.
The Oct 8 game at Polar Park will be a very interesting test of local support for HC football. No Parents Weekend because Fall Break starts October 7. Which, of course means, few students as well.

Sounds like this could be a true test of local Worcester support. Indeed. Early enough to bring the youngsters. And high school football is Friday night.

Kevin Shea will whip up enthusiasm among local sports fans in his nightly sportscast. I hope the Woo Sox and their radio broadcast team promote it as the baseball season winds down. Should be no conflict with the Railers. Wasn't their season opener on the same day last fall?
The 2022-23 Railer Roster should be fairly firm by then. Perhaps their players could be introduced in their uniforms before the game or at halftime and the Railers given a ticket sales table in the concourse with the Railers mentioning the game and player appearance in communications with their email list in return.

WooSox are a league best 5-1 after the first week. It would be classic if they were forced to play their playoff games at Holy Cross because Holy Cross football is using their field in early October

The Oct 8 game at Polar Park will be a very interesting test of local support for HC football. No Parents Weekend because Fall Break starts October 7. Which, of course means, few students as well. Good. I've always thought that Holy Cross tends to end up with multiple eggs in the same basket (nice Easter metaphor) when it comes to football scheduling, whether it's by design or not. Scheduling Bucknell at PP on a weekend that's not FW and not Homecoming shows TPTB are thinking on the margins, and that's a good thing. Typically, schools will pick their Homecoming game to be against a non-rival, and for bigger schools it's usually a lower-level opponent -- hence the term "Homecoming fodder". The idea is to bring in a good draw for a game that you otherwise wouldn't. Holy Cross often does the opposite, as Harvard has been named our Homecoming opponent many times. In 2007 and 2008, Fall Homecoming was the home opener both years, against Harvard and UMASS respectively. Granted, weather in New England gets cold early so you only have September and October to find a home for both HC and FW. As the novelty of playing at the baseball park wears off in a few years, maybe that's when you schedule a Dartmouth or Harvard there.
