It's not the CIA. I can't think of a business that doesn't make emails available. How do other ADS and coaches reach these people, if they need to? I think Kit is on the road this month fielding questions similar

I know this is extreme, but why not spring for a stamp and send your message by "snail mail?" I believe most if not all of those draw a reply.

Perhaps. Perhaps not. It won't be just about the Ws and Ls. I'm past that with Nelson. I've got to be convinced that this guy has come to internalize what it means to be a Crusader. While it's always easier when you are born into the Purple family or earn it via a degree, there are some notable folks who have adopted Purple blood like Non Alum Dave; Bob Chesney; Fr. K; Bob 4acre; yes, even Tom Gilmore and Bill Gibbons. Some who have visited the hill are "carpetbaggers" who arrive looking to make a quick buck and the day they set foot atop Mt. St. James are looking for their next gig and have no interest in what the College stands for and any success inures to their benefit. We've had some ADs and coaches that fit that description. Losing a boatload of players, not just the occasional few, leads me to believe the current staff either does not know or cannot communicate to recruits that playing for Holy Cross means more than just what happens on the Hart court, the Blaney Gym or the Smith Performance Center. Pretty hard to keep players if you don't think Holy Cross is special yourself and think of it as a mere pit stop in your career. AMEN!!! Thank you sader1970!! Your opinion was well said and I'm in 100% agreement.

Making it through the Kearney (1 year), Milan (4 years), and Carmody (welcomed back for year 5) eras/errors and then drawing the line after 2.5 years of Brett Nelson (in which he faced significant headwinds in COVID and the creation of the transfer portal while trying to rebuild a decimated roster/program) is just a bit of a dramatic overreaction.
I understand and feel the frustration after the last decade+ of misery, but the way that many seem to want to put it all on the shoulders of HCBN is just not fair.
HCBN is different than what HC folks are used to and may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but he is not the incompetent monster that people seem to have built up in their minds. He is going to be the coach of the team next year and the team should be much improved — throwing in the towel in May to go pout in the corner for the next 10 months because the brand new AD didn’t want to continue to cycle of hiring and firing coaches every couple years just seems foolish to me. But to each their own, I guess.
Go Cross Go!

There are a few more-recent challenges. There are plenty of players that due to the time, effort, and specialization required to qualify as a D1 hoops athlete, go to school "for basketball." We've benefited from quite a few players in the past who were D1 athletes that went to school for "HC." The transfer portal and current rules, coupled with NIL money, means players will have fewer immediate negative consequences for chasing the "basketball" dream, or the money, and letting academics be the necessary evil/afterthought. Even HC being the only school in the league with scholarships, that carrot/incentive is now gone relative to our peers.
We all wear the purple tinted glasses, have fond memories, and speak about the incredible, life long opportunities that an HC academic career provides. But to many kids, in the current landscape, and with the current state of the program, it may merely be a stepping stone to bigger and "better" things. Look at how the past few Athletics Department administrators have treated it-- why do we demand or expect more from the student athletes?
The more-damning effect is what we see on this thread: the last bastion of fans, ticket-holders, attendees, and donors either shifting their priorities or bailing out entirely. It's taken literally decades to get to where the program was, and maybe 10-15 years to get it to where it is now. It may take another 100 years to rebound, or it may never rebound at all. THAT is purple blood on the hands of all the former admins, coaches, and yes, some players/students that have contributed to the spectacular and tragic collapse.

HCBN . . . . is going to be the coach of the team next year and the team should be much improved I certainly hope so. It is difficult for me to be optimistic about a team without a point guard I would venture to guess that Brett Nelson understands the importance of the position given that he played PG at the highest level in college basketball. (Here is an instructional video of him talking specifically about the position. I am not going to pay for it, but maybe someone can put their savings from cancelling season tix towards it and report back: coachtube.com/course/basketball/point-guard-play/12046274)Nolan Dorsey was recruited to play PG at New Mexico. He’s also almost the exact same size as HCBN, and is a great defender like HCBN was as a player. If HCBN is in the process of developing him into HC’s PG for the next 3 years (he can no longer transfer for free), giving us a big size advantage at the position, that would be great. The roster for next year is also not complete, and there should be a number of options between transfers and HS players who may have flown under the radar due to COVID. As a point of reference, Gerale Gates committed to HC on May 3rd, and the roster calendar has gotten quite a bit crazier since then.

Perhaps. I hope you're right. Lots of things good and bad can happen in the six months before the first tip off.
Still doesn't mean I have to fee warm and fuzzy about the outlook for 2022-23

Hard to understand why Nolan did not play any point guard last season. Bo was clearly a two guard playing out of position as a point guard backup

But IIRC Nolan was also injured for a period last year, as well as potentially in HCBN’s dog house (/dog mansion) for a period before breaking out when we made our run in the middle of PL play. I am just trying to be optimistic about the one team that I can continue to care about in a sport that is quickly losing my interest, rather than the pout in the corner approach.

Optimism is very far from realism in this instance.

Also, I keep seeing posts that HC will not have a pg next season. As was said many seasons back, not having an experienced pg is not the same as not having one at all. One of the players will be the HC point guard and another will be his backup. It could be a veteran (Dorsey would be my choice) or a newcomer. But to say the team will not have a point guard is, at best, a foolish attempt to worsen everyone's opinion off the team and the coach. Just one man's opinion.

Optimism is very far from realism in this instance. I hope I'm in the same category as the optimists on the Colgate board who were not pouting when Matt Langel returned for Year 4 after a .282 pL winning percentage in his first three seasons -- slightly above HCBN's blistering .269 pace -- and a worse pL winning percentage in Year 3 (.333) than HCBN last year (.389).

Langel First three years Overall 32-61= .344 PL. 13-33. = ..282
Year 4—12-6, 2nd place Do you predict we will be in second place next season and/or have a 66 winning % ?

Do not know where you got Langel’s stats First three years Overall 32-61= .52459 PL. 13-33. = .393 Year 4—12-6, 2nd place Do you predict we will be in second place next season and/or a 66 winning % ? Our last four coaches should have you be their agent with that winning percentage formula...

Obviously someone will bring the ball up. These are athletes and someone can play out of position. Andrew Beinert did a decent job of that for years. Still I think the PG position is a cause of concern for this team. I'm just sharing my thoughts, not trying to worsen anyone's opinion. From what I read on this board, I'm not sure most opinions on the current state of the program could get any worse

I have to think there's still a PG coming from somewhere. It's a very challenging position and I think it's difficult to shoehorn a shooting guard/forward into that role.
