Team needs fire and a leader. At 50-50 needed someone to take team on back. Wasn't there today. Benzen was star today but still don't like him and AT playing same time. KC played better today. RC and MA need to step it up big time if this team expects to win games!

The HC defense was very good for stretches (HC made Mass have 10 more turnovers, and HC had 13 teals to only 6 for the Minutemen)had , but how on earth could we have missed so many bunnies? I think HC got the shots that the Coach wanted, but we just could not hit them. I am confident that will get better as the season progresses. Benzan really stepped up today. That is a good sign.

Most unexpected thing so far this year is Benzan. He will increasingly take minutes from Ant at this rate.
Three games in and record not surprising. I think today's game showed us some good things....we just need to find a way to avoid digging those early holes.
Good fight to bring it even at the half.
Cheers.

Yes, "shots were not falling" for sure today. If we played again we might well win
HC shooting percentage has been inconceivably low in first three games. A case in point is Robert Champion, a fine player, who nevertheless is 6-20 on twos (I'd suggest he should make 10) and 6-24 on threes (should make 8 or 9 of those) --I'll bet he will get on track and his shots will start connecting.

UMASS entered the game shooting 43.6% on FG's (204 out of 347 teams -- 41st percentile), and turning the ball over 19 times per game (334 of 437 -- 4th percentile). A slightly below average shooting team that turned the ball over a ton.
Today, they continued to turn the ball over a ton, yet they shot 50% on FG's, a number that would put them at the 86th percentile in D1.
Relying on just getting better at shooting 3's rather than focusing on implementing a defensive system that will stop opposing teams from scoring easily is not going to be how this program turns around.

Benzan has taken mz'S minutes and will spell ant. We shot poorly even when the neutral court is taken into consideration. Gonna be a problem I fear. No minutes for the frosh? Troubling.

Won't say we should have won the game, since we left too many points on the floor (and gave them 6 free throws on 2 shots). But at least we know the season is far from over.
PB probably will take some minutes from AnT down the road, but I do believe today it was beneficial to have them on the floor together, given the way UMass was playing. AnT's value becomes apparent when you see a team like UMass up close, playing D the way they do. I do think our guys may have tired a bit down the stretch.
We sure do need to make more shots, but I still firmly believe these games help. As I told someone today, I look at it like a baseball batter in the on deck circle - he uses a weighted bat so when he's facing the pitcher, his real bat feels lighter. I do believe our guys will experience this later on. Just need to be patient.
By the way, I thought MH may saved this from being a blowout with his initial entry into the game.
I expect Harvard to be a similar level opponent on Tuesday; they'll also be out for revenge.

What is so troubling about no minutes for the frosh...they are frosh and will need time to develop. CLS most likely first given his age/maturity. If Benzan keeps playing up, he will take minutes from, not just spell, Ant.

Just got back....I though overall HC played a pretty good game...Defended well in both the 1-3-1 and in their match-up 2-3...Rebounded the ball pretty well on the D glass, still have to get better at that overall...On Offense, we turned up many great looks, just didn't knock them down, Missed a bunch of driving layups, that were contested. I believe the team will make those types of shots in the PL games.. RC was pretty solid on both ends of the court, his stroke will come, and he did a good job on D. He seemed to anticipate passes and got to the ball quickly..KC was steady on D, didn't show much on offense. Ant was solid, as was PB..I thought early when Ant and PB were on the court together that it was not a good match-up. PB on the baseline of the 1-3-1 vs the BIG DUDE, Holloway (who has lost about 50 lbs), was not pretty..but HC changed up their rotations and improved..MA played solid all around, He still needs to find that confident stroke he had at the end of last season...JF didn't match up well with UMass, he was not quicker than the D, which has been the case in many games. And on D, he seemed to get out of position ...MH I thought early was going to have a big game, but didn't find his stroke enough to satisfy Coach...Coach is much more animated this season on the sidelines.. Overall, I wasn't disappointed. The team belonged on the court with A-10 UMass.. On to Harvard...

Wow. I wish I could share in the general optimism of the board.
The D was good at times but the offense will never be an effective one with both Benzan and AT together as the guards for most of the game. We need to develop another shooting guard to pair with them sharing the point. Not sure who that is but without it there's just not enough offense there to win consistently.
Question: When was the last time a team won by 8 pts with 23 turnovers? That's a mind bogling stat.

Coach said umass wore us down. Frosh needed to spell our 5 guys who played 36+. I didn't expect any to play major minutes, but they looked nailed to the bench.

Not really a case of us playing that much better rather Mass is no SC nor Cuse. This was a game we needed to win with the high number of Mass turnovers. It was a gift opportunity that we did not or could not take advantage of !!

That means a team shouldn't win a game with numbers like that. We just didn't make them pay. We take shots and don't crash the boards. We have a PG who just doesn't see the floor well. JF is just not ready to play at this level and I am afraid he might not be able to handle. Husek and Stevens need to be developed as the PO 5 man who sets the plays from the top of key. That is not happening thus the lack of scoring and offensive movement. Too much ya ya dribbling around 3 point line.

He has his moments, but he is not a difference maker. Not sure what else there is to develop.there. as to JS, he is 3 games in.....what are you basing him not being developed on? Also do not think as another poster states that frosh should be used to sPell folks if the coach does not think they are ready. What about Perkins....where is he? Cheers.

Based on the first 3 games PB will get many minutes, but not at AT's or any other regular's expense, only those who have not played much already. I would think that the Players who played low minutes today, plus CLS, will undoubtedly play more in future games

If you mean JF, he has shown no jump shot, can't hold onto ball, weak rebounder, less physical than last year. Stevens should get a few minutes each game to see what he can do. I agree on Husek(never been a fan) he has a max of 5 min a half.

I agree on Husek(never been a fan) he has a max of 5 min a half. JF averaged 18 mpg in the first 2. I believe he will get at least that amount from here on in. The coaches see JS in practice each day. They know best when he is ready. You have to earn game minutes in practice.
