It is indeed a numbers game. If I recall, President Rougeau said they were shooting for consistently being ranked within the top 25 for liberal arts colleges. I think that is an achievable and sufficiently ambitious goal which I hope we can accomplish without sacrificing what makes HC unique while making us more relevant admissions wise on a national scale. Vince said 'to #25', getting higher than #25 would require a big jump in the endowment $ per student. Berea, ranked just above HC, is tuition-free, Think that doesn't make Breea a school in great demand? Wow--what state produced such an extraordinary institution of higher learning?

Phreek, we either went to different Vince speeches or we heard differently. My recollection is that he said he wanted Holy Cross to once again "be in the top 25" ranking not that 25 was as high as his goal went. In either case, let's get to #25 and "worry" about a higher ranking after that. P.S. I never heard of Berea or Breea, either spelling, and, really, Pitzer and Scripps? The snappy comeback, I'm sure is, "Holy Cross? Who ever heard of them?" Pitzer? Scripps enrollment is 1,082. I think your language about the Top 25 is more accurate than mine. Endowments of the five Claremont colleges listed here. tsl.news/5c-endowments-reap-unprecedented-gains/Pomona's endowment is greater than the combined endowments of the other four. I have no idea of the financial independence or interdependence among the five.

Did athletics help pave the way for these schools to succeed?

I have a daughter who graduated from Scripps. The Claremont schools are very well thought of here in the West.

Chu, very good to hear that your daughter went to a school equal to Holy Cross! 😉 At least according to USN&WR. Let the discussion begin.😂

I have a daughter who graduated from Scripps. The Claremont schools are very well thought of here in the West. The Claremont schools are outstanding, and there are many small-ish first-rate liberal arts colleges throughout America. My daughter applied to many of these in the midwest (Carleton, Macalester, Oberlin, Kenyon, College of Wooster). Its was a good strategy; she got into all of them, and as a great student from CT she was offered a lot of scholarship money by all of them. Athletics definitely play a back seat at these schools

Congratulations to your daughter on that accomplishment. I hope she is pleased with her choice and knows great success both there and afterwards.

First cohort of schools to partner with this Chicago philanthropic foundation to increase financial aid. Carleton College, Kenyon College, Union College, Bates College and Tufts University,
Second cohort HC, Barnard College, Centre College, Scripps College and Trinity College (CT).
Aside from Tufts, look at the placement of these schools on the USN&WR's Top Liberal arts college.

Berea, ranked just above HC, is tuition-free, Think that doesn't make Berea a school in great demand? More or less. Berea covers the gap between the cost of tuition less grants and work study (all students are required to work on campus). However, room, board, and books are expressly not covered. www.berea.edu/student-financial-aid/cost-of-attendance/
