As BeachBound pointed out earlier tonight, the Crusaders got off to a great start with a 4-3 win over Uniom tonight at Hart. Frosh Alexia Moreau de Quebec had 2 goals and seems like a legit D1 forward. Senior Darci Johal got her first of the year. Mary Edmonds had the game winner in the 3rd. Union is also in re-build mode (5-28 last year) but went 1-1 vs UNH last weekend. Let's see how the Saders do tomorrow and then vs. Vermont next weekend.
Not a fan of the new uni's. I miss the purple shoulder yoke and the HC logo. "Crusaders" is written too small to see from the tv angles.

UNH getting curb stomped by WMU. Foley shooting a first communion in Cherry Valley today. Actually shot Men's Soccer for the #20 ranked Adelphi squad at Assumption today and the number 17 ranked Vermont squad at UMass-Lowell today for my 52nd and 53rd events of the school year. Next question?

Nobody asked a first question. Those are the ones with question marks at the end. I don't shoot communions and you know that. I know what you do. I think it’s a cool job. I don’t make the jokes about your job. Many others do because of all of the nonsense you post here. If you occasionally tried to just post some interesting stuff we care about as opposed to scouring the corners of the interweb for a new anti-HC topic to post about, you probably wouldn’t see others making the jokes about shooting First Communions and Swampscott JV tennis. Just a thought.

the pot shots at Foley are revelatory of an underlying lack of institutional and individual confidence.

the pot shots at Foley are revelatory of an underlying lack of institutional and individual confidence. The criticisms of Foley are "revelatory" of Foley's pathological need to be gratuitously negative about HC.

We used two different goalies this weekend and it will be interesting to see if the third goalie, Abigail Hornung, a freshman from a great Berkshire School program gets the nod in our next game. Junior Madison Beck of Nova Scotia (happy to see a players from the Maritimes--my family hails from NS and a classmate of mine, Monique Gallant, was stellar between the pipes for the team in the 2000s) stopped 32/35 in our win Friday night. Saturday afternoon, Fr. Brooke Loranger from Niagara on the Lake, ON stopped 29/31 (3rd was an empty net goal) and at 5'9" seems imposing in the net. I wonder if there is a goalie battle playing out.

#14 Vermont, no less! Looks like Madison Beck was in net for the Saders again. Scored twice in the first and hung on down the stretch

Outshot HC 72-32 but only went 1-1. Would it be fair to say UVM can't hit the broadside of a barn? HC more accurate. Something to build on.

Or that Holy Cross goaltending was very good on the weekend...the rest of the team, not so much. In the final five periods of the weekend, HC was outscored 4-0.

They barely hung on in the 3rd period of Saturday's game. Junior Madison Beck played both games. She must be the clear starter but I am surprised after the SOG Saturday they did not play Loranger who looked good against Union.
Two things caught my attention. UVM won thr faceoff battle 31-24 on Sunday and 29-24 on Sat. Not a huge difference but enough for puck possession and zone time. Second thing were the amount of penalties. Siginifcantly less than the Union games (23 penalties) but more on Sunday against UVM than Saturday. Saturday they had one and we had two penalties. On Sunday they had 7 and we had 5. They won Sunday with more penalties than we had. Special teams is something to look at going forward.

I have recognized women's hockey officials have a wide range of opinions on body checking (ILLEGAL) vs bumping.....

My wife was on the team in the late 2000s. At that time, pushing and shoving along the boards (protecting the puck, etc) were not called. Excessive punching, pushing, and extracurriculars after the whistle earned a roughing minor (although I do not recall many). Open ice hits as well as hard hits on the boards (like finishing one's check in the men's game) were called for body-checking. It seems to have loosened up a bit with the exception of open ice hits.
I remember on senior day in 2010, a forward was speeding into the zone after receiving a home run pass and Lisa Wilson glanced over to the bench and then absolutely lit the girl up. She got a 2 min minor for checking and a standing ovation from the 500 or so fans in the stands!
