Does the dismissal hurt our graduation rate? Here is what the NCAA Says on the graduation rate: "The student-athlete graduation rate calculated directly based on IPEDS-GRS (which is the methodology the U.S. Department of Education requires) is the proportion of first-year, full-time student-athletes who entered a school on athletics aid and graduated from that institution within six years. I believe that means it will hurt the rate slightly...but only 6 years from now. There is a Federal Graduation Rate (you do get penalized for transfer out) and the Graduation Success Rate (GSR) which does not penalize for kids who transfer out in good academic standing. The GSR is the one you hear more about today in connection with student-athletes.

The GSR is the one you hear more about today in connection with student-athletes. Yes, the GSR is the more publicized - although its importance has declined markedly in recent years. IF Cohen transfers into another program in January and is academically eligible, then there will be no effect on the HC GSR. Otherwise, it will have a relatively minor effect for a four year period way in the future. The graduation rates are still published by the NCAA, but are not really used for anything. Instead they developed the Academic Progress Rate, which has very little lag. It tracks whether a player returns for the next semester and whether he is academically eligible. Cohen may cost them points in this metric. It won't be nearly enough to seriously damage the HC APR but it may be enough to keep the school from getting a top 10% award in men's basketball for a few years. Its not not an issue in this case, but the only metric used by the NCAA for punishment - loss of scholarships,,tournament ban, etc - is the APR.

Web site has TC "transferring" from HC. That is the term they use for every player who leaves a program, even ones who don't transfer.

www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2016-17/rosterSome local, some not. I think he can play right away, and subsequently transfer back into a Division i school without penalty. Cem Dinc went from Indiana to Marshalltown IA to Harvard without having to catch his breath.

A couple years ago, Hutchinson was in the news when they denied admission to Brandon Austin, who had gotten kicked off the Oregon team after transferring from Providence, where he had been suspended.

Is not on current roster and has not appeared in a game.
In terms of HC, my guess is some kind of gag order got signed because none of us rumor mongerers have come up with anything tangible concerning what happened. Probably better for all concerned and HC's program is too low level at this point to cause anyone in the media to do much digging around.

If you mean the Hutchinson CC roster, he probably has to sit at least one semester

The Hutch are 20-0 at this point, seem to be doing fine. From their perspective, his experience level is basically high school.
With a spring semester and then a summer session, he can complete his first academic year, and play the entirety of his second (remaining) year.

I think many, like me, choose not to disclose it on a message board.

Quite a number of posters know the story but agree this is not for public consumption.
Let's all get over that TC is gone and won't be back and move on.
