Maybe something to build on. Let's see what happens tomorrow. Love the optimism. Wish I had some for this team.

Spot on Remember the SK experience and his being fired after one season Really hurt uswith the profession Not the same. People in the know must be asking “What the heck is Holy Cross waiting for? This is a 4 year dumpster fire.”

I really dont care if they shoot 1-60 tomorrow. But - he better have them playing for 40 minutes, period. No excuses - I want to see guys driving to the rim hard, multiple bodies going up after every damn rebound, being the aggressors from start to finish. You know....like Jared and Torey would.
Want to see Attack and Serve, like we've been promised!

For anyone wondering about my book reference …It was regarding the first half. The book by Breslin was The Gang That Could Not Shoot Straight. He was the speaker at a President’s Council Dinner in the 1980’s. I thought it was: Can't Anybody Here Play This Game?:

A tip of the hat to the FU announcers... Thought they were excellent.

Want to see Attack and Serve, like we've been promised! I wish it were that simple. Playing hard is good; playing smart with a sound coaching plan is critical. This passing it around the perimeter, going one on one against superior athletes, and hurling up desperation threes is not winning formula. Tonight Fordham was overplaying the passing lanes. Did anyone see a high post pass and a back door cut? If so, forgive me. I missed it. Bottom line? We need a new head coach who can teach these kids how to win. Brett Nelson has no clue how to get this done.

Want to see Attack and Serve, like we've been promised! Dave, it's not that simple... he does not have the players who can play that style. He must adapt to what the players he has, what they bring to the table and can do... he has failed in that regard. It's OK to say that we want to play a certain way, but if you don't have the players who can accomplish that, it is a failure on his part! Case in point... last year American beat us in two regular season PL games with back doors and very little 3's. In the PL tournament we play American again, does anything change? NO!!! We get beat again the same as the 2 previous encounters! Those who fail to learn from previous experience/history are destined to repeat it!!! He's trying to fit a square Peg into a round hole!!!

Geo, Torey, KHam and DB all behind the bench. They must be snickering to themselves about what’s going on with this program. Is D.B. Devin Brown ?

I think you guys are misunderstanding me to a point. My thoughts above were not meant to be a blueprint for success; I'm just talking about keeping the floor of the building from completely collapsing (if it hasn't already). Having hubcap stealers would be great, but last night in the first half it looked like some were opening their wallets and handing over their lunch money.
I am more concerned with how they play today than I am about whether they win or lose. I thought going in this tournament could be critical in determining how the rest of the season goes. At this point, for me it's pretty simple - I think one of 3 things could happen with CBN:
1. They continue to play wildly inconsistent from half to half, and ADKH decides (after hearing from more and more angry alums) to launch him prior to league play 2. ADKH still comes to the conclusion that CBN has to go, but decides the most prudent thing is to wait for the end of the season. 3. The team ends up showing progress in the rest of the non-conference, they actually overachieve a bit in PL play, and ADKH decides to hang on to him.
HCFC45, to your point about having the right players to play a certain style, to a certain extent I agree - in fact, on another thread I had commented on the peculiar makeup of the bigs . Course, he isn't playing with the hand he was dealt, he had the deck of cards in his hand. It would seem he recognizes there is one group that can play more to his liking style wise....and there are those that cannot. I actually can't fault him much if he decides to go with those guys in the first group. Octave was pretty much a "big" in the second half last night. If guys much bigger than him aren't willing to mix it up, then he might as well play those 5-6 guys that will until they either drop from exhaustion or foul out.
I thought the first half last night was much worse than the first half of the Creighton game. Against the Jays, they just got overwhelmed by talent; last night, they just seemed to lack aggression (maybe outside of CK). Perhaps CBN read them the riot act at halftime. That's great, but that message should have been given well before then.
Very interested in seeing what team shows up today.

Dave, I’ll take your door #2.
Missed the first half and glad I did but saw, for example, we were 0 for 8 beyond the arc. Watched the second half failed comeback and we shot a lot better which seemed to get our guys’ adrenaline flowing but still not great play but it seemed it was enough to rattle the Rams. The second half was kind of the level I expected from this team. The first half was apparently about the level of a poor CYO team.
If Brett doesn’t have the players who can play the style he wants, that’s on him and no one else.

The 2nd half proved we are not a deep team at all and playing our 3rd game in 4 days is unheard of in college bball - fatigue could be a problem today

It just looks more and more like a 7 man rotation when Louth gets back (Louth, GG, Kenney, Bo, Batch, Dorsey and Octave). The others probably spot minutes game to game, unless any of them really turn it on from what we are seeing right now.
Dorsey has by far the best assist/to ratio so far: 14/4

Even when Louth becomes healthy, we do not know if .Nelson considers him part of a rotation.

Didn't see the game. Sounds a lot like Siena. A really bad, more of the same, first half. Signs of life in the second half, but can't dig out of the hole. Is this a function of actual life? Or the opponent getting complacent with a big lead?

If they could put a full 40 minutes together ..... How many minutes for Kenney in the second half? He only played 10 minutes total; seemed completely out of sync. Their big guys swallowed him up.

Case in point: Fordham player drives to the rack, HC defender turns his hip to let him into the paint, and you'd expect, into help defense. There was none. The Fordham player gets to the rim too quickly and overshoots the layup. The rebound lands at the block and there's nobody on the HC side to pick the ball up. Fordham able to take more time off the clock after grabbing the offensive rebound. It's little things... ball movement on offense. Defense M2M seemed to pick up intensity but there's not much cohesion. Offense even more glaring. Dribble pass, dribble handoff... not seeing set pieces.

This thread is painful. When is HC basketball going to be fun, again? The answer to that question depends entirely on when our AD feels he's seen enough, heard enough. and says "no mas".
Then it is going to be a total rebuild.
The good news is that there are some players here who can help if given the proper role and direction....and the Transfer Portal can really help.....maybe not immediately but within the next two years,
But for now....with this coach....what you see is what you get.....and it ain't gonna be pretty.
