Many thanks to all of our posters for so many kind comments regarding this pancreatic cancer.Given the facts that my father lived to 88 and my mother to 95, I was surprised by my diagnosis in early October. However, oncologists have explained that the same gene that gave my sister a disposition toward an early death from breast cancer, has now affected me. I am at peace with all this, assisted by the support and prayers of so many of you, and by a lifelong faith that our Lord has been leading me on a beautiful pilgrimage home to our Father. For these graces, I could not be more grateful.
My journey through life has been an unexpectedly wonderful one--including the dedication of the field last April and the naming of the women's crew boat in 2013. (A long name requires something long enough to display it properly. VOILA!) Our athletic program has given much more to me than I have to it; and my happy association with coaches, student/athletes, parents of athletes, with our athletic trainers, with Sports Information, all the support staff, administrators in the athletic office, and everybody connected with our Athletic Department . That list, of course, targets just the athletic group. A complete list would include faculty colleagues (especially History, College administrators, Library, Kimball and Hogan, Post Office, Chaplains, ITS, Registrar),--all those places whose people invariably offer service with a smile.
I cannot possibly offer a personal response to all the many well-wishers among you; you will remain much in my thoughts and prayers. Thanks for offering to a Polish kid from Milwaukee and a PACKER fan to boot, great place and wonderful community within which to grow from a young man to an older one. ( I could have done a lot worse!) My prayers and good wishes remain with you. As Tiny Tim put it so well: "God bless us, every one."

Did Tiny Tim say this before or after he married "Miss Vickie," Father? I know I speak for many that you remain in our prayers and have been an inspiration to many of us. God bless.

This is a bit of a Yogi Berra-ism, Father: I am honored to have known you even though we never met. God bless.

Father You are very much in my thoughts and prayers. You have been a touchstone for me and my family’s associations with Holy Cross over the years. We will always remember your homily at the University of Virginia chapel in March 1995 when you began with ‘Please be comfortable for I will take full advantage of this opportunity to speak at the school that Thomas Jefferson founded…’ and your pledge not to subvert the Commonwealth of Virginia so that you could officiate at our marriage ceremony there. Father K,
How thoughtful of you to use this message board as a way of communicating with us about your condition. It is typical of the gracious behavior that we have always seen from you. Our small college on the hill and the entire Holy Cross community have been immensely blessed to have you in our midst. Thank you.
My own family has been touched by pancreatic cancer, and so, I know only too well that this is a difficult time for you. As sader1970 noted, "you remain in our prayers and have been an inspiration to many of us."

Father K: You have been a steady guiding light to so many at Holy Cross, especially those in athletics. As a former athlete, I know how important it was to have you nearby during the best and worst of times; and unfortunately, we sometimes neglected to let you and past chaplains know that. Rest assured that we stand nearby for you as you battle with this ordeal, and offer many prayers and thoughts. Paul

Been out of the loop and just caught up on this. Unbelievable... what a terrible loss for the college and this community of fanatics. He was the best among us, and an incredible gift to alma mater. Rest in peace.

Very sad news. In retrospect, it was great that Fr. K. was able to participate in the several commemorations of his devotion to HC and support of HC athletics. Now, about that campus bell.....

an opportunity for all the reflect on how precious every day is, and to give thanks at this season for us who have more than we deserve. our relationship with Fr. K (many of us from afar) was nevertheless genuine and comforting. A true legend who will live on at HC. Our prayers are with his family. RIP, Fr. K.

Father K's "Heroes in American History" -- a History 101 class I took my freshman year -- was one of the best classes I ever had at HC. May he rest in peace.
Dave's "Twas the Night before Christmas" was posted at a very uncanny time yesterday...

Father K. was a great priest a great professor and a great Crusader.

Very sad news. He was the best mentor I had at HC and learned more from him than any other administrator/professor. Thank you Fr. K, your legacy will last forever in the history books of Holy Cross. A tremendous person through and through.

I sat behind the bench Sunday and noticed a new chaplain with the team. I inquired about Father K with a parent seated nearby. As you might expect, the parent had nothing but tremendous things to say about him. Rest in peace, Father.

I recall Fr K mentioning at a gathering then that it was time to hand the duties over to a younger Jesuit

Very sad news. He has our team chaplain, my academic advisor and I "K-Oed" (as he described it), as I took every single class he thought. He will be missed at Holy Cross.

Born in 1945. Marquette, '66. His parents had been married 63 years when his father, also named Anthony, died in 2007. He had talked about visiting his ailing mother on the old board.
