Messy, messy game. Berger continues to impress 16 pts, 4 rebs 5 assists.

More doom and gloom than an 8-2 team deserves. UML has some good athletes, played hard and hit some shots. A quality road win, keeping a winning streak intact which is harder to do at our level than blowing out a team on a Wednesday then blowing a game on a Saturday.
The latter is more typical of HC teams of the last 10-15 years and the former is more typical of a team like last year that didn't have a talent premium over the rest of the league but still finished first at the end of the regular season.
Perhaps this will be the trademark of the McGarity era, knowing how to close out winnable games on top.

Color analyst nominates Flanagan for ROY. How about Donnelly?

Very lackluster win. We will need to be a lot better to compete with Vermont. HC beat Dartmouth 66-58 in Hanover. The next game also in Hanover, UVM squeaked by the Big Green 67-66. If you substract wins over St. Michael's, AIC, and Stonehill, 7-4 UVM is a .500 team. Still a great challenge to sharpen the Crusaders for league play.

I wonder what Munt's status is. Donnelly is making her look like Wally Pipp. If Munt is currently slowed by a nagging injury and returns to top form we could have an abundance of options at the wing position.

Unlike her MBB counterpart, Magarity has a bench, and seems to know how to use it.
Seven players average between 20 and 30 minutes. Foreman and Wright average 10 apiece.

A 7-8 player rotation makes sense but I like seeing all the players, too. I held my breath when Cara took a hard charge today but she got right up. Anything can happen during a long season.

It does seem her rotation is set, Huber seems to have lost out despite playing pretty well during McCormack's absence. Only real concern is a lack of scoring off the bench. Fortunately, they are a very good defensive team.

I fast-forwarded the game, missed the 10-0 UML run. Nice that HC regained its composure and executed well the last 4-5 minutes.
Quite surprised it happened. Thought the game was in the bag at that point. Seemed like the only reason UML was in the game in the first half was them hitting some 3s and HC blowing a lot of layups, especially in the first quarter.

These games are high risk and low reward but always nice to survive on the road - I can’t really tell how good we are because we’ve had so many very low major contests where we have prevailed but not always in convincing fashion - i think we’re better than we looked today - Berger is really the big difference on this team so far.

Shouldn't overlook the smaller but important contributions of Foreman and Wright, energizer bunnies who have been disruptive at the defensive end and kick up the pace when the team needs it. Magarity has slotted them in very effectively.

I agree it's hard to tell how good this team is but, given the number of young players, it's likely they haven't even approached their ceiling, especially if, as I and many other believe, Margarity is going to be coaching them up to keep getting better.

Magarity has slotted them in very effectively. I didn't mean to slight either player, just suggesting that the starting 5 plus McCormack & Donnelly are pretty much locked in every game as first off the bench for now. Both Foreman & Wright have looked very good, but it seems they are getting situational mins now as Donnelly is getting the lion's share of the 3/4 mins off the bench. MD goes in BPC and also for Berger/Allen as necessary. I thought Wright has looked especially good the last couple of games although she does have an odd, sort of any old school one handed shot, she has been very active on defense.

HC is favored against VT, but after the long exam hiatus, it will be interesting to see how this young team adjusts to the layoff.

UVM picked #1 in pre-season polls. Coach Kresge also played at Marist and coached with Giorgis at the start of her coaching career

Thanks, Maybe they had it wrong during the UML game, or I misremembered I think what they meant was that UVM is currently at the top of the OOC standings, as I seem to recall them saying something similar
