Well, speaking for myself, I care less about the lawn than really curious what they are going to call these buildings and the new Jesuit residence. C'mon someone, just donate about $10-$20 million.
And, think about astroturf . . . . people are not going to be walking up and down that hill so it's mostly for show and I think some older types of astrotruf are slippery and when it snows, it'll be better for Kimball tray sliding.

Drainage problems were easily foreseeable & entirely avoidable. In addition, in the first place, it is a very poor location for residences in relation to the rest of the campus. Wasteful spending all around. Proper Planning & Preparation Prevents Poor Performance. Peace. 67, outside of the fine use of alliteration, where would you have placed the Townhouses? I think one of the reasons they placed them where they are is for the very reason they are not in the middle of the campus. These will be senior dorms and they are trying to attract the older students to campus rather than off campus and while on campus, these are on the fringes and as I understand it, similar to what they might have if they lived off campus. How about where Williams is located, down by Freshmen Field (is it "First Year Student Field" now?). Believe my niece was the first group to live there her senior year but never asked her about location. Hopefully, the location is the first of several buildings in the southward part of recent parcels acquired by the College. I would like to see a phase 2 of townhouses on Cityview Street on the south side. Still waiting to see the new and revised Campus Master Plan from Sasaki Associates. It will provide insight into the campus vision at the Holy Cross Bi-Centennial in 2043. My granddaughter does not believe I will be around to see the HC Bi-Centennial. I told her, I plan on proving her wrong and beating the odds. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Bicentennial? Heck, I'll only be 95. I should make it since I'm counting on having a big 100th birthday bash. Anyone on here who is older than I am is invited. Younger guys, have your own party!

The Mass of the Holy Spirit was celebrated at the Hart Court yesterday. I believe this is a first, as commencement at DCU was also once a first. The reasons for this location are:
a.) Its wonderful proximity to the new Jesuit [geriatric] community residence? b.) The chapel is closed for repairs, repurposing, an exorcism? c.) The intercession of the Holy Spirit is sought for highly successful M/W basketball teams this upcoming season? (The alter centered at the scorer's table may be a clue.) d.) The chapel is not ADA compliant? (The pews of a century ago were sized for a different population, with little attention given to the infirmities of age, and that is not idle speculation.) e.) Some other reason. -----------------
Speaking of the new Jesuit residence, it remains unnamed. The naming decision may be up to the Jesuits, not the College. Some decades past [coda for I can't remember the year] the Jesuits at HC formed their own corporation, separate from the corporation for the College. For over 125 years, the Jesuits were embodied within the College's corporation, and some might say, they acted accordingly. I would love to see the answer to a question asked of Chat/GPT: Why did the Jesuit community at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester MA establish its own corporation, separate from the corporation that owns and operates the College of the Holy Cross?

e.) Instead of post-Mass coffee and donuts attendees were given a free analysis in the weight room by Chris Grautski of their clean and jerk technique.

From an article in Holy Cross Magazine 2012 magazine.holycross.edu/issue_46_3/46_3_momentAnd if you are saying this is the first time the Mass of the Holy Spirit was held in the Hart Center, I do not think that is correct. Believe there was at least 1 in the late aughts where it was absolutely raining on move in day. And hard to believe that in the 30 or so years since they moved the Mass of the Holy Spirit out of the chapel, that there has only been one day when it rained on move-in-day.

Did it rain yesterday, thus moving the Mass indoors ? To protect the Hart court, about 10 yrs ago the college bought carpeting. It was funded from the Dean's budget, because the NROTC, an academic department, uses the Hart court for its spring President's Review. Later the carpeting was useful for alum events on the Blaney court as well.

Very recent image of City View on Google maps. The house at the center is owned by a family trust, and in previous years was rented to students. I must say the house looks rather forlorn and lonely squeezed between the townhouses and Ciampi. --------------------- Also, in watching the women's soccer game against Bryant, noted there were 6-7 Porta Johns placed in the area to the east of the practice soccer/football field, where HC had stored piles of dirt in the past. The area itself appears to have grown in size. And videos of football practice on new Fr. K. field show no expansion of seating, or introduction of amenities.

Much, MUCH too much time on your hands! 😂 A city councilor at a public hearing of the city planning board had the temerity to ask, 'How long before this [the proposed Jesuit residence] becomes a student residence?' So you might say, I am asking (observing) for a friend. Future alumni lodging? How much for naming rights for The Phreek Inn?

Obnoxious question from the city councilor--was likely quite proud of him/herself for such a clever snark.

And now the 'official' explanation. I wonder, would Fr. Brooks have countenanced such prioritization of the entertainment business?
Weather forecast for this week: rain Wednesday, sunny and warm Thursday, Friday, Saturday.

Forget Fr. Brooks (well, not really) but I have concerns if it is officially "poor field conditions on Fitton Field." You know, there's a game to be played Saturday. Wonder what the issue is?

I think the field is fine. They didn't want 2,000 chairs messing it up. I think if the first game at Fitton was the second or third week of September, the mass would have been at Fitton, weather permitting. And thinking ahead, they want the field to be in great condition come the FCS playoffs.

1+ inches of rain fell on Friday between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM on Friday. As Phreek said, 2000 chairs and the stage for the altar would not have been optimal for the field.
So you're telling me that it is possible to prepare two locations - one indoor and one outdoor - for large scale events like Mass of the Holy Spirit, Baccalaureate Mass and ... oh I don't know ... graduation?
