Update.
The contractor is delivering stone aggregate for a new base. This suggests they are not installing a new drainage system covering the entire field. A new drainage system might add many weeks to the project.
Monday is mowing day on the soccer practice field. That explains the green tractors that were running around on that field a week ago Monday. This also means no new softball field this year.
It appears that the mowing and upkeep of this practice field is done by a contractor. The area beyond the east sideline of the field, beyond the R and the S on the banner sign at Fr K field, slopes so sharply that a fair-sized mowing tractor (8-10 feet high?) abruptly drops from sight, as if Columbus had sailed off the end of the earth.
(I know all this ^^^ because one can very easily scroll back in time on the livestream feed, and not because I have nothing better to do all day, other than being a sidewalk superintendent.)

More work than I anticipated based on thge past eight days of construction. Lined for lacrosse. <<That and the press blurb from HC athletics suggests that the planned combined soccer/lacrosse field and expansion of Smith Stadium is not imminent.

If you dig into that Shaw site, they would sell Holy Cross a purple field, not just a purple border. God help us if someone on HC decided to do that!

The position of the camera is not ideal - maybe there is not another place to put it - would be better to see the work if it was higher and further away from the field surface

Electrical and internet connections are already in place.

They lowered & pulled them up on ropes to mow the steep hills on campus especially on the Kimball Quad, Freshman, & Fitton Baseball fields.

While on campus this past Saturday, I was curious regarding progress on Fr. K Field. Currently all the heavy equipment has been removed, with the new base layer on the ground settling in. Forgot to get a timeline for completion.
Of note, additional temporary bleachers may be installed for next Lax season to alleviate the congestion issue with the current seating.

The word "pathetic" is one you use a lot regarding anything about Holy Cross. Are you confusing HC data with the quality of your posts?

Are you kidding me I am sure you are familiar with the distance back to the Hart - what do you think visiting teams say ? There are many bathrooms in the Luth/Hart right next door to the field. .What is the maximum distance allowed to indoor plumbing? I have been to other fields where the ports-johns (nmo biilsing) were a good distance from the field. Of course, since they are not HC, they must in the opinion of some be superior to HC. PS: Who is rgds?

Having 2 lax players graduate from HC, describing he fan experience as pathetic is a compliment. If there is a longer term plan being developed (or funded), as a temporary measure, I suggest to start with an upgrade to the port-johns. If the same location is to be used given the ease of access, Just spend a few more dollars and rent the same units that are brought into any major golf event. A cleaning contract would be a nominal additional cost. The season is only10 weeks long.

Completion is set for early August. Likely before pre-season camp opens. They could install additional bleachers after the field itself is done. My wild-assed guess is that the next phase will be construction of the concourse with amenities. Then the renovation and expansion of Smith field., And the final phase would be the new softball field.

That sound like a plan… ADKH knows the facilities are not reflective of the others on campus with 2 new playing surfaces… (field hockey/track being the other) prioritized … one step at a time moving forward is good to see

www.youtube.com/live/tFdXwryvrY0?feature=sharelaying the base for the new turf If you scroll back on the timeline, you can see the various elements that comprise the base. As this is a continuous stream, there is no way to link the video to start at a specific hour and minute.

They have begun installing the turf, moving from north to south. Interrupted by weather yesterday, and they are not working today (unlike at the townhouses), so my guess is that the new field is on schedule to be completed in two weeks.
The distance from the very northern end of Fr. K field to the Hart is about the same as from the south stands at Fitton Field to Fenwick, or from Hart courtside to Hogan.
I'm convinced that if hoop or hockey fans had to walk to Hogan to go to the bathroom that would raise national awareness of the Holy Cross brand to an almost incalculable level!!! Surely, there would be repeated highlights on ESPN Sportscenter of dedicated Crusader fans trekking down the hill, the more miserable the weather the better.

There are bathrooms at Fr K field. They’re just portable ones that some find embarrassing. I’m not that worried about where I pee for 45 seconds once during a game. Some people are obviously bothered by it and think we should have a real bathroom. I think that’s a reasonable position for fans/parents at a D1 school but no one has to go anywhere to pee under the current setup.

There are different levels of quality when it comes to portable bathrooms - shouldn’t we have the better kind ? ( the type you might see at an outdoor formal affair) - your basic ‘porto-John’ is a definite No

( the type you might see at an outdoor formal affair) - your basic ‘porto-John’ is a definite No Don’t disagree that having nicer facilities is always preferred by us here on the big message board. But the College is making cost/benefit decisions every day on where to spend money and they’re often going to choose the less expensive option as they’ve done here. And those really nice portable bathrooms have AC and lights so you need some sort of generator out there too which adds additional complication and expense. Our insurance company probably prefers the simpler option in addition to the cost of setting it all up.

I discovered something quite peculiar on Google maps today (Was estimating distances.) This is a screenshot. Houses on the north and east sides of Epworth St, have been photographically linked and the houses identified as Campus 5, Campus 7, etc. This numbering even crosses to the other side of College St., where there are several houses, and these are numbered 1W, 3W etc. The source of the individual photographs linked on Google maps is given as Government agency. Someone using Google maps to navigate and orient could click on the photo button on the map for Campus 15, for example, and see a photo of the house. No other houses on College Hill are marked and identified in this way. So what's the explanation for identifying this set of houses in this manner? ?

KH last year said the cost estimate for the improvements to the playing fields on top of the hill was $17 million.
$3 million spent on the field hockey field and track. $1 million spent on new turf for Fr. K field. Leaving $13 million. $3 million for a new turf surface for Smith Field. $1-2 million to expand seating at Smith field. Leaving $8-9 million for a softball field and the amenities concourse. HC won't spend more than $3 million on a new softball field. -------------------------------------- So Phreek's guess is that the Google map with houses on Epworth marked and numbered as 'Campus #' are houses on a common water and/or sewer line, and said line(s) will be extended to the playing fields at the top of the Hill. And that the concourse area will have not only spectator amenities, but several large locker rooms for visiting teams, and bathrooms for HC teams. That would easily run the tab up to $17 million.
-------------------------- Potential for Worcester receiving up to six inches of rain today. If that should happen, this will be a test of how high the Middle River gets as it flows by Fitton Field, and the effectiveness of the stormwater diversion project that sends high water flows from the Webster Square area away from the Middle River, and to a 'channel' on the west side of Southbridge St down to Auburn and thence to the Blackstone River. If six inches of rain falls today and the Middle River stays within its banks by Fitton Field, that could be a positive sign for eventually installing turf for either or both the football and baseball fields.
