A fine example of the saying: "Even a broken clock is right twice a day."

I'm including the NCAA and WNIT tournaments in "national post season" because they both have autobids. HC managed to snag one of each the past two seasons. Then our two most senior assistants leave for definitely more money at UMass and probably more at Northern Kentucky.
But there is no reason why two assistants with similar skill and experience as the two who left had when they were hired can't be added to the staff now. And the beat, hopefully goes on.
One interesting note is that Coach Magarity had the luxury of the exact same coaching staff for each of her three seasons at HC. And the staff makeup has been close to optimal on a PL WBB budget: two experienced coaches, one who was a holdover with roster relationships, and one young coach who had been coached by Magarity at UNH.
Did the stability and experience of the staff contribute to WBB success? Can't be sure because MBB had a stable staff for four years also, with only one change in the last year.

Trying not to be nastier than usual but the difference between the men’s and women’s basketball programs is/was one had an inexperienced head coach and the other has one with multiple years as head coach and grew up with a father who was a head coach for years with both men and women.
Magarity has had her opportunity to learn from her mistakes as a head coach before she got to Holy Cross. Nelson did not. He’ll get another chance somewhere in the not too distant future and hopefully he will realize what he did wrong and what he did right and make the necessary changes.

With his resume he may have to wait a while and probably go down a level or two

Milan Brown, with a much better record at HC, combined with taking a team to the NCAA tournament before HC, is still waiting. He may or may not be that interested in another head coaching position after his heart attack.

I cannot imagine that Bret Nelson would ever land another head coaching job. Sean Kearney never did as far as I know.

First, Brett is a lot younger than Sean was when he was fired, so Brett has many years ahead of him.
IMHO, what it will come down to for Brett is, how big an ego does he have? If he's willing to "coach down" to a D2 or D3 head coaching job to prove he's learned from his experience, he could get one sooner rather than later. If he insists there's nothing to learn from his time at Holy Cross he may well be waiting as long as Sean did to get his job at HC.
