An ERA just shy of 2 makes him a #1. Have to agree to disagree....a 6 inning pitcher isn't a #1......This does not remind of Koufax/Drysdale, Marichal, Gibson or Clemens........I know, the game has "changed " His numbers don't remind me of Kershaw or Cole in the current era, either I guess it depends on your definition of a #1. I tend to think of my #1 as my best pitcher - even if he isn't a stud. The flip side is that a guy like Max Scherzer could have been a #1 on a lot of teams, but he was a #2 in Detroit because he had a teammate named Verlander. For what it's worth, no one on that 2018 Red Sox team was a 7 inning pitcher

Braves are clearly convinced that Sale is really back. They extended him and bumped his salary "Sale's previous contract ran through 2024 and guaranteed him $27.5 million -- though $10 million of it was deferred, bringing the present value down to around $20-21 million -- with a $20 million club option for 2025. The new deal bumps Sale's present-day guarantee significantly, giving him $16 million in 2024 and $22 million in 2025, while the Braves add a buyout-free $18 million club option for 2026."www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/39240986/chris-sale-braves-agree-2-year-38m-extension-sources-say
