Not to sound elitist but not many going to the IL either. Precious few are leaving from highly regarded academic schools like Stanford, Notre Dame, etc. A quick scan, and maybe I missed one or more, but there was one from BC. Granted, I know you can get smart kids going to almost any school but the fact that there are so few going from and to well regarded academic schools would seem to say something about the process.

Interesting that the only two PL teams getting transfers, HC and Fordham, were far and away the top teams in the PL last year.

I did notice that Tyler Martin, a kid from BB&N that committed to Michigan at a very young age, is now at UMass.
When Don Brown got canned, Michigan changed their mind on him. He then signed with Arizona, where Brown had landed as the DC. Figured when Brown went to Umass there was a decent chance he'd end up in Amherst, I assume he spent his entire redshirt year at Arizona; or maybe he didn't.
Given Umass' low stature in FCS, you might say he's gone from the Big House to the Outhouse.

Noticed that 4-star Kevin Pyne, apparently offered (?) by the biggest schools (Notre Dame, LSU, Clemson, etc), seems to have done very little on the football field at Boston College and is going to URI as a grad transfer. His brother is the former ND QB (now at Arizona State) and some Crossporters might know some sort of a back story as there is overlap with his extended (athletic) family and HC.

What national power did they host when the stadium opened on September 25, 1965?

Geez! There are a few schools (Incarnate Word, Jackson State, Northern AZ, Stony Brook) that may not have had room for incoming high-school grads!

He's a very big kid but not real sure he's a LB at the end of the day. He did stay his one year at Arizona and red shirted. He's an FCS DE really.

FWIW, Stony Brook will be an absolute football trainwreck this year (worse than last year’s 2-9 trainwreck) and were it not for the fact so many kids transferred out I think you’d be on target. They brought in 16 or so transfers and 9 or so high schoolers this cycle. The transfers (except for a good punter) are pretty unimpressive. The QB situation is almost beyond description - I think they’ll play without one. On the bright side, SBU just got a nifty 500M donation (for academics) from a (very) rich guy so academics continues to drive things out there.

If memory serves Div II (College Division) Mass easily defeatedDiv I (University Div.) HC. I was at that game. HC was definitely not a "national power" nor was it an eastern regional power. The school regularly finished out of the running behind the "Big Five" - Penn. St., Syracuse, W Va.,Pitt & BC - in the Lambert Trophy rankings. Also Harvard, Yale Princeton & Dartmouth generally had stronger teams than did HC in those years. HC was in a "no man's land."

They had a couple of seasons not too long ago where they were a fringe top 10 team.

They were (up to 5 years ago) keeping good LI kids and landing other good players and quality transfers would show up for exposure. Not any more. (And admin and student body are completely disinterested in football…)

HC might have played them next.

Actually, I did not remember the HC-UMass game opening the new stadium. I was there to watch the game. '65 was a tough season. '66 was definitely more fun.

Definitely was a run-heavy squad, I think they ran the Power I. They beat Army one year and nearly beat UConn as well. Former Giants TE Will Tye was on those teams.

Yes, Hofstra transfers were very helpful (2012 was the last season for Maysonet and the rest of those Hofstra guys…that year they easily beat West Point and scared Syracuse). 2017 (7-1 CAA) and 2018 (5-3 CAA) were their last good/pretty good teams. Time for a new coach and complete overhaul.

Johns Hopkins yesterday in Baseball started a grad student on the mound who played four years at Qunnipiac. How do we feel about that? A D-1 player for four seasons that goes down to D-3 for a grad season?

Perfectly fine. If they have the eligibility and want to foot the cost they have every right to do so. I’d say the same in football. It wouldn’t help the kid much but if that’s his choice then so be it.

The extra covid year was a fair response to student athletes losing all or part of a season. Use it in any way that you want.

A D-1 player for four seasons that goes down to D-3 for a grad season? The kid is getting a graduate degree from Johns Hopkins. He must have been a very good student in addition to a great ballplayer. Obviously not even on scholarship. In a nutshell, this kid should be the poster child for what the NCAA claims to be all about.
