Arizona State is 8-2. Massey makes them a favorite by 43 points. They say that HC has 0% chance of an upset. I am not sure I have ever seen that big a point spread on Massey in women's hoops. Wednesday should be "interesting" and the team then comes home to start their PL schedule against Boston University at home on 12/30 (BU lost at Arizona State by 29: 42-71) BU also beat UMass by 4 (64-60) at home.

I saw a BU recruit play last night, Riley Childs from Medway (Class of 2018). Quite impressive, and the improvement from last season to this one was quite noticeable (when I heard earlier this season she had a D1 offer I was very surprised).

HC early 8-4 lead, playing really good D, think ASU may have taken them lightly, expect tthey have woken up 4+ in the 1st

ASU comes out on a 8-0 run, now lead 16-11, figuring out the HC zone. HC not getting any love from the refs as Hasenauer w/3 fouls already. HC having trouble finishing as ASU seems big.

Scoring 4 total points in a quarter will just not get much done. In the 2nd Q HC was outscored 17-4. Otherwise, the ladies have been playing pretty well against a very strong team.

Arizona State is an example of the disparity between teams in women's basketball. Against many, they are "very strong", but against UConn they would be a 23-point underdog. Last year it would gave been 35.

Final ASU 63-33. The good, great defensive effort, the bad, they are the gang that can't shoot straight.

HC13 you are right. Time to try some other players. We do have some who can shoot.

Well, I guess losing by 30 when you are a 43 point underdog (and leading at the end of the first quarter) means they played a good game. We will learn a lot more about this team on 12/30 when they take on BU than we learned last night.

disagree that one can say they played a good game. i just hope the ladies enjoyed the change of climate for a day or so, and feel refreshed for the '2nd season' in front of them. for myself, after 11 games i have seen enough to fear this could be more of the same even when playing against weak pl teams.

Was this a guarantee game? If not, and as we have no West Coast players on the roster, and IIRC, have not recruited West Coast players, what is gained from such a trip? __________________ Take heart purplehaze, after reading the comments on Women's Basketball on the Lafayette forum, the depths of the PL appear to be at a level that HC will not reach.

Was this a guarantee game? I would be very surprised if it were not.

There was probably some small amount of guarantee money, but there is not a lot of money in the world of women's college basketball. Few programs draw a lot of people or make a lot of money. Those that do, such as UConn, have home-and-homes as opposed to guarantee games when it comes to playing the strong teams. And they have a choice of 100 possible opponents when it comes to playing a weaker team. Thus they need not pay a lot of money.
Arizona State drew1650 fans for this game. Maybe ticket revenue of $20,000. Add in concession revenue but subtract all the expenses of opening an arena and operating it. Thus they might have enough left to pay HC's expenses.
