Interesting, if true. Arkansas is a big time program, but not the same level as Kentucky. Seems like moving down the food chain it is moving down the food chain. However, Calipari was on a very hot seat, and might well been fired after next season. Now he locks up a new long-term contract. And he is going to a place where the fans will worship him, as opposed to Kentucky, were most of the fans wanted him fired. I am sure the Kentucky A.D. is ecstatic about this move. A true win-win for both sides.

Getting better as a coach. I don't think any of his Kentucky Final Four appearances have been vacated

Opens the job up for Ricky if he decides that he no longer is in love with living next to a golf course in Westchester.

"... a golf course?" More than that. Ricky P lives next to the famed Winged Foot Golf Club, one of the finest and most historic golf courses in the land. As a tired ex-golfer what I wouldn't give...

For the right amount of money movement of a coach can happen in any direction...up or down. Loyalty? What's that? If there was a uniform pay scale for head coaches, or anything similar, loyalty would be a bigger factor.

Unconfirmed rumor out there is that Kentucky has been in contact with Dan Hurley of UConn.
Stay tuned.

Leave it to Mr. Ego to do this right before the Championship game. Be ready to add to our portal thread. There will be a mad scramble for his Kentucky recruits, and maybe some returnees. Of course, just as he did when he left Memphis, he will try to take both his current Kentucky players and his Kentucky recruits with him Mr. Loyalty. Classic Calipari.....Narcissism personified...............He had lost the fan base and the adminstration......he had a terrible pandemic season in 2021, and lost consecutive 1st round games to St Peter's and Oakland.....he went through dozens of 5 star recruits with only one national championship.....he knew he was going to get fired, but didn't care about his $ 34 million buyout........He didn't Kentucky the chance to fire him, and this was essentially a massive double bird to the fan base and adminstration......a " paycut ", within the conference.........He obtained a 5 year deal from a school that wants to return former glory and a school that has a LOT of money ( Tyson Farms, Walton, Jerry Jones ) Any guesses on ratings on the initial Arkansas-KU matchup ?? Alabama's Oats to Lexington ?? We'll see

Jim Christian to Canisius.
Christian has had an interesting career with connections to many notable coaches. Started off playing college ball at BU before transferring to URI. Was on the URI 1988 Sweet-16 team coached by Tom Penders and assistant Al Skinner. Was later an assistant under Ralph Willard (WKU/Pitt), Herb Sendek (Miami-OH), and Stan Heath (Kent St) before eventually becoming head coach at Kent State, TCU, Ohio, BC, and now Canisius. Career record of 320-286 (.528) with two NCAA and five NIT appearances in nineteen seasons.

And before all that, he played for Ralph at St. Dominic’s on Long Island

Dan's move is apparently from a position of strength. Makes you realize that former HC head coach BN, operating from a position of weakness did a great job moving directly to an assistant coach position at UMass, which is not in a power conference but is still in a conference better than the PL.

I wonder where Justin Burrell’s next stop will be, now that change is underway at The Mount.
Hope he lands on his feet with a solid coaching position. Would be very nice if a head coaching position becomes available to him somewhere.

I'm really curious about this move by Coach Dan. I'm assuming he will get an increase in pay; wonder if he had a prior relationship with Autry (The Basketball Tournament, maybe?). I'm curious because I'm wondering if this might be the start of a trend - sitting low D-1 coaches latching on to a position in the pro-college division of NCAA basketball. Maybe he is as optimistic about the future of low D-1 ball as I am (which is, not very). He also had a couple of really good freshmen hit the portal; maybe that played a part. At any rate, good luck to a good guy. Wish JB a good transition as well.

He recruited like crazy to get pretty good players to the Mount, a school of 900 undergraduates, plus grad students and seminary. I think his move was to get away from the day to day pressures of the NIL and portal. A good coach and terrific guy who cares about his craft and his players.

Good for Dan. Good coach, very nice guy. I’m sure it’s a boost in salary. Has a young family and his wife is an HC grad.
