The Rams face HC after a week off. They are still smarting from last year's loss at Fitton and are tied with HC having one loss in the PL. Massey sees HC as a 6 point favorite (38-31) with a 62% chance for the win (even if it is at Fordham for their senior day).

HC is gonna rebound from this Lafayette loss the same way they did the BC loss. We went to Yale and completely dismantled them. HC is gonna go into this Fordham game firing on all cylinders. And there is one thing that is absolutely certain, Matt Sluka will be the best football player on the field. He is gonna do his thing and we are gonna win this game. Also, I really think Gtown is gonna beat Lafayette.

Bought a GA ticket last week for $30 which includes the senior citizen discount. (That has to be the most expensive ticket in the PL.) I will also have to pay $15 to park in the garage. So an expensive day in the Bronx is upcoming. Long range forecast looks excellent, so I am thinking we will see an HC offense firing on all cylinders. Go Cross Go!

Based on Saturday, the Leopards are better than each of those teams, but each of those teams is also capable of beating the Leopards - and Lehigh is almost always a throw out the record book game for each school.

HC ticket, swag and concession revenue must be down this year due to the weather. Maybe the finale against Georgetown on November 18th will be a perfect day with the PL title on the line to pump up revenues. Stranger things have happened.

UND played the game of many years to whip their big brother in state rival NDSU two weeks ago 49-24. Followed it up last week by visiting volatile 3-3 UNI and getting thumbed 27-0. Granted I think the talent b/t UNI and UND is much closer than Laffy and G'Town. Also, I think Laffy just might have the "it" factor this year so I have them winning comfortably by at least 2 scores.

Can only remember one well-attended non-BC game that weekend before Thanksgiving- the Colgate game when they were undefeated and Raider fans came out in droves. Long time ago, believe it was Coach Allen's final game.

It looks like there are plenty of FCS "name" teams sitting on three losses today. Given how we showed in last year's tourney, our having a narrow loss to a likely FBS bowl team (Beagles don't fail us now!), having two National Offensive Players of the Week on our roster and an All-America linebacker as well, I feel good saying that we control our own destiny. If we win out - without any squeakers against PL foes, I think we'll be playing after November 18th.

I really wonder how much last year’s performance or that we have star players will enter in the committee’s decision. If a team has a better resume than HC for this season, and does not have stars, it is hard to think that team would not be selected instead of HC Right now we have no quality wins.

Fordham will be a problem. The HC "D" is talented but secondary is young & inexperienced, not a good fit against a dynamic Fordham passing game. Hope HC's recent in-game experience will help this extremely talented bunch improve. A loss in general is not a good preparation for the next game. Fingers are crossed.

Regarding our defense, including and especially our secondary, “potential” by definition is something for the future.
Our guys may have potential but that hasn’t been converted to success on the field yet, IMO.
Will that transformation happen soon enough this season to make a difference? We can all stay tuned.

Out of curiosity, did Fordham sell out of tickets in their baseball bandbox well in advance of such a large matchup? HC sent an email blast yesterday with a ticket link and tickets were already sold out (can't go anyway and couldn't convince the Mrs. to drive down to the Bronx). I would think HC would have either double checked availability before sending the email or had a visiting allocation.

CBS
21. Fordham 5-2 Coming off of a bye, the Rams get to take on Holy Cross. This is the type of game you want to see the Fordham defense lead from the front.
Lafayette #14
HC not in top 25

The video tells the entire story
Don’t Eat the Poisoned Cheese: UNC Football Hoping to Avoid Trap Against Virginia Posted by Michael Koh | Oct 20, 2023 | ACC, Football, Sports, UNC Sports
The year was 2005, and Mack Brown’s Texas Longhorns were 10-0, ranked No. 2 in the country and headed into a matchup with Texas A&M to finish off a potentially perfect regular season. The Aggies were struggling at 5-5, and Texas was coming off a 52-point win over Kansas the previous week. All signs were pointing to a burnt orange blowout.
Then Brown got a phone call from his friend Bill Parcells.
“You’re in trouble,” Parcells told him. The Big Tuna could sense Brown’s team was more focused on a possible BCS matchup with No. 1 USC than the rivalry with the Aggies. With A&M’s larger goals for the season gone, it would bring all it had into the matchup with Texas. During his weekly UNC press conference, Brown recalled the chilling warning Parcells issued to him.
“He said, ‘You’re like that big rat that’s eating the poison cheese.’” Brown remembered. “And he said, ‘You’re gonna die now. You’re gonna eat the poison cheese and you’re gonna die.’
“I got scared to death sitting there on the phone. I said, ‘I got you, Coach!’ So I went downstairs and I hung a piece of cheese from every locker. And I put his quote up there.”
Parcells’ words turned out to be gouda advice, as Texas struggled with A&M in the first half before finally pulling away in the second. Now, Brown said he’s giving the same warning to the Tar Heels: in order to avoid a muenster upset at the hands of 1-5 Virginia, No. 10 Carolina can’t eat the poisoned cheese after a 6-0 start.
Brown brought up the story after being displeased with the Tar Heels’ midweek practice in preparation for the Miami game. The Hall of Famer said he felt Carolina was simply resting on its laurels after beating Syracuse, similar to how last season’s team collapsed after reaching 9-1. Brown “ripped” the team after the practice, and last Sunday had what he called one of the toughest post-win team meetings he’s been around.
The message is clear, and it seems like Brown’s players have taken it to heart.
“Playing UVA, they’re a 1-5 team right now, [but] we can’t get complacent,” said linebacker Cedric Gray. “We have to play to our standard each and every week, no matter who we play. It’s the time of the year where upsets are very big, and we’re not gonna let that happen to us. We’re gonna come out focused and handle business like we’re supposed to.”
Carolina is listed as a 23.5-point favorite over the Cavaliers, by far its largest point spread of the year. The ‘Hoos are mired in a tough season and are likely the weakest side the Tar Heels have faced so far, but according to veteran offensive lineman Corey Gaynor, the margins are still razor-thin.
“This game is fickle,” Gaynor said. “It changes every second. You feel on top of the world one day, and everyone’s patting you on the back. You lose one time, you give up one sack, you give up on [tackle for loss], the narrative changes on you. So we’re always looking for what’s next.”
Gray and Gaynor appear to have followed Brown’s advice and refrained from eating the poisoned cheese. It’s unclear whether the same can be said of AP Poll voters, who have the Tar Heels in the Top 10 for just the fourth time since 1997. Unfortunately, Carolina lost each of its last two games as a Top 10 team, including the season opener at Virginia Tech in 2021. The poisoned cheese had done its job.
Now, Brown has acknowledged his team’s maturity is on a different level from two years ago, benefiting from leaders like Gray and Gaynor. But he also said while that leadership has removed some variables from Carolina’s week-to-week performance, he’s still not entirely convinced.
“We know Virginia’s gonna play hard Saturday night,” said Brown. “We knew Miami was gonna play hard Saturday night. How are we gonna play? Are we gonna walk around all week and be cool and talk about all these stats about how many times we’ve been 6-0? Better not, because then you won’t be 7-0.”
It’s hard to forget a shot across the bow like that. But just to make sure, Brown repeated his actions from 18 years ago. When the Tar Heels returned to the locker room after practice this week, each and every locker was festooned with a piece of cheese.

The last time Jack Coffey field was sold out with HC as the opponent (the year escapes me) they did sell SRO tickets at the gate. I ended up standing behind the HC bench and then sitting in the baseball stands at halftime.

Wonder if HC fans will be scattered throughout Coffey or if there is a dedicated HC visitors section (since there is no visitor's side). Does a stadium facility like Coffey, with stands on only one side and a large baseball field adjacent to the stadium, small videoboard, etc. negatively impact recruiting? There is more to a program than the stadium with things like workout facilities, practice facilities, academics, etc., but I can't imagine Coffey or Cooper Field help FU and GU recruiting. Some of the PL stadiums are quite nice or at least surrounded by beautiful nature (thinking Lehigh, Laffy, and Bucky). Would a packed small field like Coffey be better for recruiting than an 80% empty Mathewson Stadium? Growing up I remember driving by Fitton on 290 and thinking, "wow what a big stadium!" The first time I saw Coffey Field, my reaction was "wow what high school plays here?"

Craig Haley likes the Crusaders over Fordham. Not a lot of analysis.
Patriot: Holy Cross (4-3, 2-1) at Fordham (5-2, 1-1) Kickoff: 1 p.m. (SNY/ESPN+)
Notable: Holy Cross’ 53-52 overtime win over Fordham last year was its sixth straight in the series. Crusaders senior Matthew Sluka is coming off 330 rushing yards against Lafayette, a Division I single-game record for a quarterback. Among FCS QBs, Fordham’s CJ Montes has thrown the most TD passes without an interception (17, and the next-best is only five).
The Pick: Holy Cross
