Yes, Matt has awesome talent, but has he ever played anythying other than QB? If he goes to JMU for something other than QB, it seems like a project/risk. Much less of a project/risk than me taking the field obviously, but still... I've seen him play running back taking a direct snap in the shotgun formation. You can see the results in the HC, PL and FCS rushing leaders category. Regarding your last observation, with the new rules you must have a year or two of eligibility left.🙂 You’re right. I stand corrected.

Hard to argue that analysis......Sluks is almost certainly will be looking at a destination other than Harrisonburg Yes, I don’t what his other options are but JMU doesn’t seem a good one relative to a starting QB opportunity. At the same time I wonder if things have unfolded the way he hoped they would. All the experts seem surprised at the depth and quality in the portal so he and his advisors might be surprised too.

And do we really believe Northwestern, Stanford, Duke, Vandy, UVA, etc are looking in the portal for a QB with Sluka-level passing skills and availability?

...just "passing skills" - no. However, leadership skills and overall QB ability (more than just passing skills). - absolutely.

Good luck to him, most likely going to have to compete for the starting position wherever he lands.

I think he can win the starting job at UNLV. His main competition is the Campbell QB from the last few seasons.
UNLV would be a pretty solid fit. Matt would do well in the Mountain West imo

I actually think this would be a good move. He can beat out the Campbell kid. His game and style would be a great fit for the Mountain West. Plus, UNLV has recruited very well last few years and is on the way UP. Runner-up in MWC this year to Boise State.
Their QB transferred to USC after a big year so clearly they are on the national radar.

Not too shabby.

The Rebels are searching for a new quarterback this offseason since Mountain West Freshman of the Year Jayden Maiava entered the transfer portal. Campbell transfer quarterback Hajj-Malik Williams committed to UNLV over the weekend.
Adding Sluka would provide depth and experience to the room. If the Holy Cross transfer lands in Las Vegas, he will challenge Williams for the starting job.www.on3.com/transfer-portal/news/matthew-sluka-unlv-rebels-football-holy-cross-transfer-portal-visit/A quarterback battle between two one-year portal FCS guys? One of whom can't show up till the summer? Losing that terrific redshirt frosh QB at a late date [entered portal 1 Jan...committed yesterday] may have put UNLV in a situation that gives Matt a shot at playing FBS.

No he should not sign w UNLV to be anything but QB1. Or JMU for that matter. Notre Dame or Arkansas - OK, different story.

Not Sluka, but a fellow Patriot League QB from Georgetown, Tyler Knoop, departed the portal yesterday by signing with Stony Brook. The academics are a good match but I hope he knows what he is getting into football-wise. Knoop started last year and I thought he played OK against us and struck me as an average PL QB. I wonder if any CAA teams have contacted Sluka with assurances of a great chance of starting (even with 1 year availability and a summer arrival)? www.on3.com/transfer-portal/top/football/2024/?position=qb

He must not be very good because he went there" , but Knoop threw for 2310 yards in 10 games having never started before this season. In his three games prior to HC he passed for 332, 353, and 361. His predecessor, Pierce Holley, took a grad transfer year to Eastern Illinois, started from game one, and finished 8-3.

Miami *may* have gotten their QB. Former Wazzu QB Cam Ward commits to the Canes.

It was kinda odd that Lauter played in just one game this season and torched a pretty good Laffy for about 430 yards in that one game. (That was the game that got me thinking Laffy was very vulnerable thru the air…). Knoop, a 5th year, was the starter all the other games this year. Stony Brook’s quarterback situation has been hilarious (for want of a better word) the last few years and Knoop is most likely the best qb remaining in the portal (he’s ranked pretty far down in the On3 QB portal rankings) who was willing to join that woeful and hopefully rebuilding program.

FWIW, UNLV seems to have locked up two commits this weekend, with one being CB Tony Grimes. Folks seem to think Matt is the other one.
That would be a really fun offense to watch next year if they get Matt

And the MWC will likely get a lot more late night TV allotments with the legacy PAC 12 teams seeing maybe half the evening air time (since half their new conference schedules will be CST or even EST).
“Mountain West after dark” could become a thing the way the old WAC was in the 1990’s.
