Last year, we were the same 3-10 entering league play, but then beat Bucknell to open the PL portion of our schedule..
I'm more confident that we're heading in the right direction this year, but it certainly ain't any prettier right now.

Is this worse than the Raynor years? Tough question but I would have to say it is close.
This is a really poor basketball team.
They clearly deserve their computer ranking.
I feel like these kids are better, however, the Raynor kids were near the bottom of about 250 teams, this squad is near the bottom of about 350. I am more optimistic now than I was then

Kind of a common refrain, this season and with Coach Nelson teams. A horrible 5 minutes or so. Coach Paulsen said before the season that runs will happen, but there needed to be a focus on not letting a 5 point run turn in to a 15 point run. That is exactly what happened early in the second half. Throw in 15 turnovers and it gets bad. A bunch of those turnovers were in the terrible run, but HC played more or less even for 33 minutes or so. I realize that comes under the "Other than that Mrs Lincoln, how was the play" category. The team needs to get better on D to stop these runs. ---------------------------
I don't like needed to rely on freshmen so much, but I was getting to like Wills. I hope he is back soon

Interesting that the broadcast team said that the team was not returning to Worcester but would remain on the road ahead of the Sat afternoon game at WP - I think that’s a good thing and maybe the team builds some cohesion with practices along the way.

Wills is my new favorite player (someone said he wasn't dressed and my eyes are good enough to see the bench, but why not? anyone know?) , besides Caleb who has indeed made great strides over the years. Louth is starting to come along. Batch is NOT a point guard. Playing him there is a negative. We don't need another Andrew Beinert. Need Wills at the point. It seems in almost every single game, the opponent goes on a big run and we can't respond, and the game is lost by double digits. Presumably mostly due to inexperience. That said, to my inexpert eyes, we just don't shoot very well even when wide open and free throws?!

Louth is starting to come along. But is he? What did he do last night to suggest he's "coming along?" He's not very skilled. Declan Ryan, as a freshman, is further along than Louth is, IMO. Already a more polished offensive player.

I am guessing why we saw Tse last night was because Paulsen is trying to get Batchhelder away from being the Point Guard. Batchelder is having a terrible season. He rarely is getting open looks and his defense is not good. Maybe the loss of Gates is the reason with no inside/outside game. I don't know if it was rust but Tse played just a few minutes and had two bad turnovers and what is the deal with Montgomery - when will he be back? - he plays the point at times.

Just interesting that Marquette WBB did not stay on the road on Sunday after playing UConn and flew back and forth as they played St John's on Wednesday. I would have stayed on the road like HC is doing instead of traveling

Tyler Boston at the point potentially could be a big step up next year.

I feel like these kids are better. . . . Raynor's roster in his last year included freshmen Ryan Serravalle and Pat Whearty, sophs Jared Curry and Juan Pegues, and Josh Sankes sitting out his transfer year. Believe Brian Wilson, who came in the following season, was also a Raynor recruit.
They would have mopped the floor with this year's roster.

Obviously things got better with the advent of advent of scholarships. I will admit I wasn't thinking of any of those four names, all of whom had their best playing days under Coach Willard and that's where I tend to think of them. Take a look back Coach Raynor's last couple of rosters before scholarships. I don't believe they would have wiped the floor with this edition of the Crusaders, even considering the core of this team is underclassmen who by definition are basically works in progress

We have given up 22 points in a little ovah 6 minutes Ended up being a 30 point 3rd quarter for BU. That's happened a lot this year. In the game at the half, lose concentration or whatever, suddenly a double digit deficit.

Are there now quarters in men’s college hoops ? At first I thought I was on the women’s thread.

Already a more polished offensive player. Wait a minute. Yes, give Louth his due criticism; but Ryan's performance* last night was not good at all. Not something to look forward to. *3 turnovers in a couple of minutes first time he was in the game. Drew a couple fouls but forgot how to shoot them. 1 rebound in 8 minutes of play.

You'd better be looking forward because Louth's been "coming around" for 4 years. Ryan has better offensive skills and 3 plus seasons to come around. We're debating which of our only 2 playing bigs is worse. We don't have a big for the current recruiting class and if we only have left one to give then what do you think will happen next season? Ryan has to keep playing. Oops, forgot about Chuck Hare.

If Ryan plays better, perhaps they will be reversed.

To this non-expert, Ryan appears to have some offensive skills- good shooter and has some moves around the basket. He has not shown himself to be a rebounder or shot blocker. We’ve talked about physical conditioning several times and I think he will benefit from time in the weight room.

Wills was on the bench with Bo. Injured, I’d guess.. Hopefully Bo will be back soon, after the Elms game, Paulson said a week or 2.. Just guessing, but I’d say the Navy game at home next Wednesday.
