Good job.
It's funny - I can almost always predict who won the game when I first log on by checking to see who made the last post in the thread.

We are now tied with AIC for 4th place but only 1 point behind 3rd place Air Force. Two out in beautiful Erie next weekend against the 9th place Lakers.

Another series against SHU late in February at a crucial time and a series vs. Air Force. Those will be crucial in determining where we will likely be playing our first round playoff series.

Call me pessimistic, but I think it's an uphill battle to avoid playing in the first round.
Every team in the league (save SHU) has one, two, three, and even four (Mercyhurst) games-in-hand on us.
We also have a very difficult road in our final seven games: two at Mercyhurst, two vs. third place Air Force, home-and-home against first place Sacred Heart, and one vs. sixth place Bentley.
I'm not sure three point weekends are going to cut it. We need to find a sweep somewhere in here.
Definitely have the team to do it, but for whatever reason we have risen to the ocassion in the non-conference and fallen flat in some AHA games.

Might be why I am not a huge hockey or soccer fan. While it is true in all sports, it seems to me (I'll let KY or Phreek get the data to prove or disprove my gut), that pucks have a tendency not bounce or go where intended and soccer and hockey are such low scoring events that the "better" team doesn't win as frequently as one might expect. Both seem to be more likely to have fluky results based less on skill and more on luck. JMO. That said, I will root for Crusaders no matter what the sport.

Pretty obvious that you know nothing about college hockey. I would rather you did not post anything than make a moronic statement like that. Why not post "Happy for team that just got 4 out of 6 points against the #1 team!"

Here's a suggestion: Put me on your "ignore" list. That way you won't even accidently read my "moronic" statements.
As a refresher, "JMO" means "Just my opinion." This is an opinion board. If you disagree, that's perfectly fine. I hope you have a better day after the angst I obviously caused you. FWIW, I am happy whenever our Crusader hockey teams win.

JMO but the take-away is that there is a ton of consequential action between scores that us casual fans don't understand as well as those who have coached and played, all of which reduces the incidence of lucky scoring. Goals in soccer and hockey, like in the old Smith Barney commercial, are generally e-a-a-r-r-n-n-ed.🙂

May I suggest that sader 1970 go to a few games and witness the skill sets these players have. I am also of the opinion that if I do not have knowledge of something, I do not comment. BTW 1970, I am of the opinion that your classmate, Larry Murphy '70, should have been the first hockey player to have his jersey retired. Wondering if you ever made it to the old Webster Arena to see Larry perform his magic.

I HAVE been at hockey games at the Hart and watch the men and women games when they are on NESN.
I stand by my prior post and I support all Crusader teams but prefer football and basketball in that order. Soccer and hockey and baseball are much further down my priority list of teams to watch.
You obviously played hockey somewhere but your board name suggests not at Holy Cross. I have little doubt your knowledge of the sport is vastly superior to mine. Great that you love hockey and presumably support the team with either your presence, dollars or both. In that, I salute you.
I will again politely suggest you put me on your ignore list if you feel offended by my opinions.

I think you're probably right that in sports like basketball and football, the better and more talented team will win the majority of the time. In a sport like soccer, a much less talented team can "park the bus" in front of the goal for the entire game and earn a tie. In hockey, you can have a hot goalie stand on his head for 60 minutes and eek out a 1-0 or 2-1 win. In baseball, a dominant pitcher can carry a team to a win. In a way, this is what makes these sports great. That said, I don't agree that these games have "fluky results based less on skill and more on luck" -- the bounces will tend to even out over a game and the better team is still going to win the majority of the time.

I was pressed into service as a coach in a summer hockey league (no other adult available) and my son's school won the league, beating the school where I taught. I learned (and saw) a good deal that summer and learned a greater appreciation for the sport. However, luck does play a role - even if less of a role than some believe. After all "reducing the incidence" is a way of saying luck is still there. One of my son's friends was ass't general manager of a minor league hockey team. He came by the rink where my son was skating and brought three of his recruits. For a lark they stood at the end lof the ice to see of they could beat the goalie - even calling their targeted hole. They scored on better than 90% of those shots. It was amazing to see. The goalie said he could not even see the puck at times because it was moving so fast. I also saw a game in Muncie, NY and was astounded by quiality of the play on the ice. I asked who these players were and learned that they were all FORMER NHL players just "keeping in shape." They were no longer in the pros because they were "too slow" for that level. Believe me, for some players the puck goes just where they want it to go. However, even for them there is still some measure of "luck." PS: Is "woorat" linked in any way to the former Devils minor league team, the Albany "River Rats?" I still have one of their jerseys - one of my favorite all-time logos!

A former great friend and a very successful coach always told his teams that Luck=Preparation +Opportunity.
