In the fall of 2016, the College of the Holy Cross will honor the seventh class of the Crusader Football Legends Ring of Honor. Each of the inductees will be honored during a ceremony at Fitton Field with permanent recognition in the stadium. This year's Ring of Honor inductions will take place during the Harvard game on Oct. 15.
The players to be honored will be chosen by a special committee as well as fan voting. The committee includes representatives from the Holy Cross Athletic Department, the Friends of Crusader Football Executive Committee, the Holy Cross Varsity Club and the Holy Cross Development Office. Fan voting will account for a small percentage of the final tally.
From now until 4:00 p.m. on May 16, fans will be able to vote from among the semifinalists selected by the committee from the two different eras: 1896-1969 and 1970-present. Click on the link below to vote for the players from each era, or click on a player's name below to view biographical information on that individual.
Players who have already been inducted into the Ring of Honor include: Ronnie Cahill (Class of 1940), Tom Ciaccio (Class of 1992), George Connor (Class of ex1946), Gill Fenerty (Class of 1986), Harry Flaherty (Class of 1984), Tom Greene (Class of 1959), Tom Hennessey (Class of 1963), Bruce Kozerski (Class of 1984), Gordie Lockbaum (Class of 1988), Charlie Maloy (Class of 1953), Pat McCarthy (Class of 1963), Jon Morris (Class of 1964), Edmund Murphy (Class of 1943), Bill Osmanski (Class of 1939), Vince Promuto (Class of 1960), John Provost (Class of 1975), Dave Quehl (Class of 1976), Johnny Turco (Class of 1952), Jeff Wiley (Class of 1989) and Joe Wilson (Class of 1973). Dennis Golden was all-everything in the East and deserves the nod, Jack for next year in my opinion. Rob McGovern did it all with the Patriots & Chiefs after HC also. All are worthy candidates....

Please vote for Jack Lentz Just did hoops. Went with Bill McG in modern era. I went with Bill in the "modern era" as well. He was something special. There are no bad choices on either list IMHO!

IMHO, such honors should be based only on performance while in school, not in the pros, etc.

While it is rare that I agree with Sarasota on almost anything, I agree with him here. But for those who don't agree, let me remind you that Jack Lentz played safety for the Broncos something like 3-4 years after graduating from Holy Cross. To my recollection, no one else from HC has played for them since and therefore a 45+ year gap until Kalif joins the team. Vote for Jack Lentz!!

I saw all of the 70+ group play for HC multiple time - voted for Murphy
Of the earlier group I saw only Lentz play for HC, but I did see Golden play for Quantico Marines at Fitton in1963 - voted for Lentz; his sophomore numbers were also remarkable because for the first few games he split time with another soph at QB, Mike Cunnion.

+1 with 'sota on only considering a player's HC career.
Both lists show the past greatness of HC football. Hopefully the younger generations of HC alums/fans will see a "Return to Dominance".

Took the word of those who know and voted for Lentz for the earlier group. Voted for Muldoon over both McGoverns for the modern era. Peter was a helluva player. I hope to get to vote for both McGoverns over the next couple of years.

Just voted!
Tough to not vote for several of those nominated in both sections!
Voted for my classmate, Jack Lentz, for a couple of reasons, primarily...
1.) 2 time O'Melia Award winner, sophomore year on a losing team and senior year on a winning team! (Our class of 1967 beat BC twice, frosh year and senior year)! 2.) Fought through a bad knee injury, junior year, to come back and lead us to a winning season senior year and victory over BC!
Next year, will definitely vote for my friend and former neighbor Denny Golden!
At some point in time all those mentioned from that era will be elected!
In the next group, I voted for Peter Muldoon! Great QB! one of the best ever to wear the purple and white!

Chet Millett. His record speaks for itself. Millett's impressive bio has one missing word. he received the Catholic college player of the year from my alma mater. Brooklyn Prep. The word "Prep" was omitted. later winners included Mike Ditka.

As a reminder, the voting for this year's Ring of Honor ends on May 16th.
Great to see this celebration of tradition growing and resonating. Fitton keeps looking better and better with the names of all these greats prominently displayed.

I'm curious as to opinions on past players that are not listed as candidates but should be or have potential to be?

For starters . . . and just one man's opinion given that the selections are made by the full committee.
Lou Kobza, Glenn Grieco, Steve Raquet, Jerome Fuller, Eddie O' Melia, Mark Duffner, Dr. Eddie Anderson, . . .
I think we might be at this for a while.
Great way to celebrate the fabulous tradition of Crusader Football.

Having watched many of Glen Grieco's games, he is well deserving. He was the dominant defensive force on the '66 team that went 6-3-1, inc the great win at BC(Lentz to Kimener) Dr. Eddie and Duff should be in already.

Glen was a force on the field. He was so mobile that one announcer (I sometimes was the HC spotter for visiting media) kept saying he was a middle linebacker in a game where he was playing middle guard. He was that mobile. (I asked him to look where he started each play and he then changed the announcer then altered his description to the correct position). Those who only know HC football from the last few years may find it hard to believe, but there is a wealth of talent represented by the alumni of the HC football team.

More than once Glen was through the offensive line into the backfield and took the quarterback's handoff before the running back could get there. I rarely Saw that before or since.
