Curious if people here sat on the North-side often before the 1985 refurbishing of Fitton.
The late Carlin Lynch (former HC player and coach) was always a proponent of sitting on that side.....I'm too Irish-stubborn from 50 or so years of sitting in Sections 5 or 6 to make the change myself.

I always wondered how Colgate got the players they did in the 1970s and 1980s without technically offering scholarships....multiple guys who went on to the NFL, many tremendous players that beat very good scholarship teams at the time....had to be a LOT of financial aid etc.

The NFL rotates what OOC division you play every year annually.....the other games are based on what place you finished in your division the previous year.
My guess/hunch is that the EBW/PP Game is probably on the chopping block this year....diminishing returns since it started.....in some ways it may have cost a playoff berth this past year.

I think the Ivies have risen from their "fall" in the 80s and 90s and possibly into the '00s. They were starting to get blown out by their in-state public school rivals nearly annually during that era. I think we beat Dartmouth something like 15 games in a row starting in 1978.
In the last 10-15 years they have improved as they have been offering more aid etc than they did at the end of the 20th C.
Would like to see them add an 11th game and become eligible for the FCS playoffs.....it would help raise FCS awareness in the Northeast imo.

We are a good PG and a solid 5 away from being a decent team..
This Colgate team isn't as good as they've been recently.

A nice win....happy for the players&coaches......this game gives hope....I think we're on the right track but it's going to be a long road back.....this kind of a win gives hope that we're back on the right track though.

Sad to hear....never knew Tyree Blocker (what a football name btw) but he was on those early/mid 70s teams where I became a Sader fan for life. Great defensive backfields in those years, Ty with Provost, Rohan Bradley and others. May he RIP.

It's odd....somewhere along the way, we stopped being a "late-night" society.

more concession money if you don't have time to grab a bite before tip off That’s likely true, but the teams using the 6 PM start all switched to that time because they did a survey of their women’s ticket holders and found that the majority wanted 6 PM. Everything (games, stores, restaurants etc) seems to start and end earlier today than back in the day. My varsity games as a player in HS in the early '80s didn't tip off until 7:30....and I remember going to restaurants with friends and/or families after those games and not leaving the restaurant etc until almost 11....can't do that as much today outside of the major cities. When did we become such an "early-bird" society as opposed to a "night-owl" one?

Tough call on Singleton there.....win or lose, like the way we've played in the 2nd H.....could have easily packed it in

Put it this way, we could be losing 17 games in a row to Colgate or be in a league with a Syracuse (pre-ACC) .....where does HC basketball, given its history, really fit?

HC hoop is never going to approach past levels of success in hoop, be it the 40s and 50s or the late 70s and early 2000s.....the hoop world has changed. A school like HC, an academic-first school in a league that prizes that, is never going to be a factor in this NIL college-hoop D1 world. Sad, but that's the reality. Not saying we can't cheer them on etc....but they are probably never going to a factor moving forward sadly. It will be interesting how long Paulsen deals with this moving forward. Let’s start with being a factor in this terrible league. Like, let’s get a home payoff game. Let’s go to the semis. Anything. We really can't recruit at this level of hoop, no one cares about Lehigh (no offense) in Greater Worcester.....there really is no way of "playing ourselves" out of this league outside of outright leaving this league for basketball.. It is what it is. I often think of how different HC hoop and Greater Worcester would have been if HC had joined the Big East in 1979 and there were weekly games at the Centrum against Syracuse, Villanova, Georgetown etc. Tragically sad in what we squandered.

It is what is but as I've said forever on this and past forums, HC hoop will never be successful overall in this type of league.....hoop-wise, HC belongs in a more high-profile league. This league just isn't the right "fit" for HC basketball.....it never has been. We belong with other similar nationally-known Catholic/Jesuit schools in the Big East or A-10 if we're really serious about basketball.
The problem is, how do we separate the rest of the athletic programs in the PL from the hoop program?

I think the Patriot League has both buried HC hoop and buoyed HC football.
It's a great fit for our football program at the FCS-level....but it has buried our hoop program. It is what it is.
I actually don't mind it quite frankly.....a school like HC isn't going to be a player in the NIL-world of college hoops in 2024. More interesting having a viable football program at the FCS-level today imo.

Seriously....not expecting instant results but a "basketball turn-around" shouldn't be this arduous....15 years and counting.....Chesney turned football around in like 2 years.
