John Buckley HC Class of 80 something has led Fordham's undergraduate admission effort for the past ten + years. Good man.
Fordham University has received 44,683 applicants for the Class of 2021 as of January 18.
Of that number, 19,859 students applied for Early Decision/Early Action, a two percent increase from last year and the largest early applicant pool in University history, said John W. Buckley, associate vice president for undergraduate enrollment.
The students who applied to Fordham and successfully passed through the selection process were strong academically. The mean GPA for the early admits is just shy of 3.8 (on a 4.0 scale) and their mean testing stands at 1392.
The University admitted applicants from 49 states and more than 50 countries.
International applications continued to climb for the Class of 2021. Almost 2,000 international students sought early admission. Just two years ago, that number was less than 1,500. Fordham experienced the most representative application activity from China, India, South Korea, and Taiwan.

Would be Class of 1984 (probably 8485 knows him?). Great that a fellow Jesuit institution has such great leadership with an outstanding educational foundation. My former Classmate and roommate had been the long time head of Columbia University Law School admissions. Must be something in the water on Mt. St. James, as long as you don't drink from a contaminated water fountain on the top of the hill in 1969.

John lived down the hall from me on Carlin III my Freshman year. Did not know him well, but always seemed like a very good guy.
I have a younger brother - a Fordham alum - who used to work at Fordham, possibly for/with John - who knows John much better than I and remains friends with him even though he hasn't worked at Fordham for 10+ years. He has always held John in the highest regard.
No surprise he's doing well.

Biggest thing Fordham has going for it.......location in NYC, Finance/Arts/Communications Capital of the World. Biggest thing Boston schools have going for them......best college town in the Country. HC should heavily promote its proximity to both cities, as well as Providence and New Haven.

Yes HC needs to say "Come here so you can be close or sort of close to some cool places." I like that strategy.

We've been over this so many times. HC's location in Worcester is not a positive

It can be made a positive with some imaginative marketing and a POSITIVE attitude. hcgrad94- Do you display that lousy attitude where you work?

Sarasota, From the HC website www.holycross.edu/campus-life/worcester-and-new-englandAnd I know you haven't looked at HC admissions recently, but admissions & the College do promote the proximity to both Boston & NYC in their programs and literature for social, academic and career life to students. Admissions highlights opportunities for internships, summer work, etc in both locations and the College fosters connections to the NYC business world for students through the Ciocca Office of Entrepreneurial Studies. Finally, the College recently intorduced a New York Semester Program - scroll about half way down this link for some details on that program: catalog.holycross.edu/academics/liberal_arts_in_the_worldSeems like your suggest has actually already been acted upon.

Our failure to generate apps well north of 7,000 is not because we're in Worcester -- that excuse just let's our admissions head off the hook for producing sub-par results.

Yes I like the whole idea of "Well Worcester sucks but hey there are cool places within a few hours! approach.
Actually HC has taken the other tact, which is to promote the growth and energy in Worcester.

Agree they are hcgrad94 - just look at that full link I posted above. It is virtually all about Worcester.
But at the same time, they are not ignoring the proximity to Boston & NYC, the connections to both and opportunities each present primarily after graduation.

Worcester is considered to be in the Boston metropolitan area. I have friends there who commute to Boston. So they can truthfully play this up. And frankly in some parts of the country the distance between Worcester and Boston is considered negligible.I was in Phoenix recently and asked someone what it was like to retire in someplace so far from from the ocean. He said it wasn't far and that you could get to an ocean in five hours or less!
