Pretty sure if he met 87 he'd remember him . . . . . not what he looked like but the way he spoke.

Boston says "park" like "pahk"; Worcester has a harder accent, like "pack." In many movies the actors are using a Worc accent instead of a Bos accent.

Congrats to the chief. If DC is like many other jurisdictions, an officer with 30+ years has likely maxed a pension out at 80% (actually works out more if he can use accumulated sick and vacation time to increase his high years) Now he can take a new job with a different pension and really sock away some money. Someone from Advancement ought to see if he wants to up his giving.

Governors get in trouble when they try to stop that practice

Governors get in trouble when they try to stop that practice That is definitely true. In many places, public safety folks, like cops, firefighters, and prison guards were entitled to a hazardous duty retirement after 20 years regardless of age--typically at 50% of the average of the high three years including the payout for accumulated sick and vacation time plus an additional percentage for years worked over the base of twenty. There was a time when government work paid poorly but had great benefits. Over time, the pay increased so as to drive the pension costs up precipitously. Some states have tried to reduce these costs for new employees.

Look at that picture very, very closely . . . . . that is Tommy Lee Jones in that uniform and he was a Yale grad, not a Holy Cross grad. Hate to nitpick but it was Harvard, not Yale. He was Al Gore's roommate.

Was thinking he was a Yale drama school grad. But, you are right. I went from my often foggy memory. Harvard, Yale, Princeton, they're all the same to me. Anyway, good to see you putting that Irish degree to could use. But I hope you didn't take the entire 9 months since I made my goof researching this.

Trivia Question-- what Holy Cross star athlete also headed a large police force?

Ty Blocker, Pennsylvania State Police. For their sake I hope he never had to tackle a fleeing suspect in the open field. Ty has to be one of the surest tacklers to ever wear purple. When he tackled someone they went right down.

Ty Blocker is correct--headed the Pennsylvania State Troopers. Man could he hit as a corner back. He also 4as pressed into service as a running back one game (Steve Buchanan must have been injured) and carried 15 times for 84 yards.
