Ok, I know this has been mentioned before, but I feel like this deserves it's own thread - the band this year imho has taken their support to a whole new level. I don't think there are any more members than in recent memory (Bob can confirm), but they are loud and proud, for 40 minutes. I would hate to think what the atmosphere would be like without them. Last night I brought up a bunch of YOU YOU YOU t-shirts to the game (thanks again to the generosity of my friend cfrivals), and left them in the band section. I look over a little later and I see the drummer has one on. During the first half, some of the members shook the shirts at Loyola players when they took foul shots. Two others staged a bullfight with a shirt as a torero(?) during another free throw. It was hilarious (at least to a juvenile like me ). At halftime, the drummer and another member came up and took a picture with me (and they're sophomores!). Now, I know the zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz'ers may laugh, but I admire the spirit and roll up your sleeve attitudes these guys and gals have shown. It's just a real shame some of the other students that go could not feed off their energy. I know at least one parent went over to them after the game to thank them for their support. In short - they are great! Looking forward to them trying to whip up a big crowd on Saturday.....ought to be fun!

They were shown on the webcast more than once. Came across spirited. As you note, it is unfortunate that there are no similar visuals for other students

The enthusiasm of our pep band is AWESOME! (Wish they would resurrect their Superman Theme they played when we beat BC in the DCU.)

Wouldn't it be great if the whole crowd in the Hart did the you-you-you chants in unison. If the Dukies can make Cameron famous. We can make the Hart famous for the you-you-you chant. NAD- talk to the band.

Dave, I saw the band (and your shirts) in action and it was great! The BU game on Saturday could be a good time to see the HC students get together on the you-you-you chant?! After all, traditions have to start somewhere.Hat matador/bull bit during a Loyola foul shot was a classic.

Dave,
Band is roughly the same size as it has been. As for spirit, the band has always been good, but I agree this year they have really stepped it up.
Lots of reasons, but I think much credit goes to the new director - Dr. Steven Riley, hired in the summer of 2015. He has done very good things to improve the internal workings of the band program - marching band, pep band, and concert band. He comes from a Big 10 band background (Illinois undergrad and Iowa grad school) so he brings that level of experience to the program but also recognizes that, as a student activity, it has to be fun for the members.
I think that spirit of having fun started to come out last year and, to use a familiar team analogy, the members have learned and adapted to Dr. Riley's "System" and so you see it even more in their enthusiasm.
Now, if we could just get both student sections filled and allow that band enthusiasm infect them all!
BTW - I'm sure Dr. Riley would appreciate knowing you appreciate the work and see a difference and would pass along any messages to the band, so feel free to let him know. And finally, the band and athletics have been working together more closely since Nate Pine arrived, so if you are so inclinded, let Nate know you notice a difference as well.

Nice idea. This has probably been asked before, but where is there a list of faculty/admin email addresses?

I sent the following to Steven Riley:
"The band's enthusiasm is outstanding. Please resurrect the Superman Theme the band played years ago. It was awesome. Keep up the goo work. From a former piano guy in the Crusader Dance Band."
He replied as follows:
"Thank you so much for your kind note. It's always nice to hear back from alumni and I am always willing to take requests for our playlist.
I am quite proud of our band's commitment to cheering on the team throughout the entirety of each game. Even among collegiate pep band's these days, this is a rarity. The students in the Crusader Pep Band are committed to putting on spirited performances through music and their cheering. I too hope this doesn't wane.
I'll have to dig through the library to see if I can find the Superman Theme you are referencing. I hope it hasn't been lost to time though.
Thank you again for your support of our program!
Best,
Steven"
