Where is the tourney being played? Upon further examination, they are good Monday through Sunday, not just weekdays. The access is: grounds. Site is Bay Hill.

I didn't even mention that I was at the Siena/Marist game in Albany yesterday afternoon. they drew 7376 for a Sunday afternoon game. I know that some people are committed to the PL and I have sworn off criticizing the PL this season. I am resigned that the PTB will never switch to the MAAC for many and varied reasons, most of which make a great dean of sense from an academic perspective.

quinnipiac: 2124 Niagara 1078 Iona 2611 Didn't find the others but suspect @niagara was the lowest
Again, I understand the academic considerations which is why I have laid off this topic all year. Of the games played yesterday only the Quinnipiac game was on campus internet. 3 were ESPN3 and one was Time Warner, upstate's cable provider.
Again, I digress from my goal of giving someone tickers which I can't use

Thanks. I believe that there is more than the academic factor. These attendances figures are not much different from the Pl ones. Siena is the major outlier, even though Monmouth has been the best team the past few years. i have a feeling there will be no outstanding team next season.

Why does Sienna do so well in attendance, compared with the rest of the league? Let's find out, and that!

A couple of reasons: firstly is plays is a downtown arena very similar to the DCU which makes going to the games an enjoyable event. When McCaffrey was there and they won the MAAC 3 years in a row, there average attendance was up to 6,600. Secondly, they play in a league that, with the exception of Rider, Quinnipiac and Monmouth is pretty homogeneous, small Catholic schools. When Manhattan comes up, all the Manhattan alums come out in force, same with Fairfield, Niagara. My observation is that the athleticism of the league is pretty good for a mid-major league which makes for an entertaining product. After the arena the 2 most important factors are the strong alumni base in the capital district (Siena was pretty much a day hop school in my time and most of the alums stayed around) and the strong support from the local print and TV media. Most of the home games are on Time Warner cable as are the away games at Canisius and Niagara. Interestingly, when cable TV first came to Albany I the mid-70s one of the channels was 27 out of Worcester and we got to see the Holy Cross games here in Albany. The MAAC tournament is being held in Albany this weekend and the attendance will pretty much be influenced by how deep into the tourney Siena goes. They play Fairfield Saturday night in the late game and, if successful, Monmouth the next afternoon. I don't see them beating Monmouth but if they do, tournament attendance should approach 50,000 again.
As you may know, UAlbany has had much more success in the last few years, 3 straight trips to the dance out of the America East. However, its attendance are PL numbers as there isn't a lot of interest in UMBC, UHN, Maine and the other schools in the league. They can't play in the downtown arena as it would be an economic disaster with their small fan base. Also, their grads come from a boarder geographic catch basin and always have so they don't have the alumni base that Siena does. I only saw one UAlbany game this year, the one the Cross came over for and there weren't too many people in the gym. We Crusaders made just as much noice and the home crowd. Newt season the Cross is going to renew its series with Siena so we will see how it goes. Obviously there will be more people to see the game in Albany than the one in Worcester which will be at the Hart. I don't recall who is home first but hopefully when the Cross comes to Albany a lot of you will make the trip to join us and make some noise.

Marist hasn't been a Catholic college for over 40 years, since '69

If so many alums from manhattan, Fairfield and esp niagara come to albany to see their teams, why do so few attend their home games ?
