one could argue this, pointing to what the ivy has done with their new league championship at the palestra which promises to sell out for saturday's dh. could anyone imagine the patriot league playing their final four at a single venue and attracting 8-9000 fans ? i know we don't have a facility that large among our schools but i don't detect the interest even if we did.
i personally like their format. it keeps the regular season relevant, as only the top 4 schools qualify for the tourney. anyone with me to suggest the same for the pl, and play one weekend at christl arena (west point)?, which has the largest capacity (i think)

Does the Ivy have better attendance than the PL ? Their new format is attractive, much due to the site, the Palestra. It will draw loyalists, esp UPenn fans , at least to the semis, and casual Philly hoops fans, of which there are many. The PL had no success at the horse palace in the early 2000s. i believe that Christl, or any other arena, would not draw either. Bucknell and Navy have the best facilities, but only Bucknell has a strong following. As with siena in albany, the bison would draw at home, if students were not on spring break, but i believe that few fans from other PL schools would attend.

If you factor in their larger enrollments, the Ivy's generally don't draw well at all - especially with three strong programs and a rising Penn team playing in the Pakestra. This year's attendance: penn 3596 princeton 2390 harvard 1806 columbia 1625 yale 1356 cornell 1272 brown 825 dartmouth 791 Note that Penn's attendance is inflated by having hosted Big Five sellouts with Villanova and St. Joes

How about the Hershey arena where Wilt scored 100.

Becasue no one wants to go to Hershey, PA.
Suggested years ago after the PL moved out of the Horse Barn, suggested that the PL use the Palestra for their tourney. Ivy & Penn schedule was an obvious hurdle, but holding a tourney in a big city like Philly gives a big time feel to it and, even though most would not do a whole lot more than go to the games, the idea that there are things to do in the course of a day while waiting for a game to tip attracts fans.

Is Mohegan Sun (or Atlantic City) definitely out of the question?

I'm not suggesting we go that route, it's just that I find it to be a good idea for the ivy, and unfortunately our league has some constraints. A neutral site is a terrible idea. I suppose the only thing close to the ivy format would be to play a weekend 4 team tourney at the highest seeded team's court. I would like 6 teams to qualify (last 4 don't deserve to go to any postseason !). on a midweek day, 6 at 3 and 5 at 4, with 1st and 2nd place teams getting a bye into the final weekend semis.

If almost all teams do not draw in the playoffs(as during the season), why would their fans go to a destination ?

If you're not in a multiple bid league, I actually like the PL format. It gives greater meaning to the regular season

Isn't too hard to figure out why any IVY sport is more popular than any PL sport:
Casual fans, and even far less than casual fans could anywhere in the country could rattle off at least 4 Ivies if quizzed, yet you'd be hard pressed to find a guy on the street in Worcester who could name a single PL school, know that HC plays in the PL, or even has heard of the PL.
