This type of thing would fit at the Hart Center (which I always thought was the biggest problem with upgrading the scoreboards) and is video capable too. Would be a nice addition to the place. If a D3 school can have one, a D1 school should be able to.

As I noted in another thread months ago, video boards are coming to the Hart Ctr. by '18-'19 season.

Just like May Baker Eddy's gravesite in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, I will have a telephone next to my grave stone. An appointed person will pick up the phone and inform me when HC gets a 14 seed.

Not that I'm that impatient but why didn't they put the boards in concurrent with them tearing the place apart last summer?

Not that I'm that impatient but why didn't they put the boards in concurrent with them tearing the place apart last summer? $$ once it was determined that hanging one above mid court was not feasible it doesn't seem to be a particularly expensive item... unless the degree of fitting it/them to the space means it is not an off the shelf item.

Agreed. Just tack another $3-400,000 on top of the $95M. I'm sure you run your personal finances like that.

Are we really talking about a scoreboard of that size costing 1 to 1.5 million apiece? Surprised they are that expensive.

hcgrad94- It's 0.42% of total project cost. Yes, foolish. I hope you're not in the financial industry.

hcgrad94- It's 0.42% of total project cost. Yes, foolish. I hope you're not in the financial industry. The real question is why on earth scoreboards wouldn't be included in the initial $95M budget. Meanwhile, we rip out significant parts of the student sections on the baseline to install new hoops that were totally unnecessary.

I can't see renovating a gym and leaving an old scoreboard. To me this would have superceeded a bunch of the other gym updates. But that's just me.
I'm thrilled HC has invested almost a hundred million bucks in sports facilities. But boy, would I have loved to have been part of the committee who decided how to spend that cash. Good lord that's a lot of money.

18'-19' season for video scoreboards when we had 93 million? That's a joke!! Also in all the money we are putting into an FCS football program, we couldn't foot the bill for lights? Cmon peeps! We are so behind schools that were d2 and d3 just 10 years ago!

As I understand it, the videoboard(s) will be at one end, the east end of the court. The videoboard could not be installed this year as they have to cut holes in the east wall, as the upper level will have access to the athletic department suite. Whether they can install a videoboard on the west side is uncertain, because of the Bud Ryan room.
And as I also understand it, a videoboard at center court requires the roof be raised.

HC athletics are so bottom of the barrel now. I'm beginning to think it's unfixable. Admission department is, in my opinion, clueless. Administration is 50 years behind the times. Good student athletes, catholics included, don't consider HC. The facilities still have a way to go to compete with most New England D-3 schools. Build another retreat center. That should do it.

The roof is the biggest problem with the arena, IMHO. Had the damn place not had a seat more added to it in the original construction but a higher ceiling a lot more could have been done to the place over the years.

When you're creating an image--which is what the Hart improvement is--scoreboards are a significant part of the effort. Holding off on the scoreboards hurts the impact of the new image. Shortsighted.
