Two fellow Jesuit basketball programs that we were bettah than in 1980....but we weren't in the entertainment biz.....and look we were we are now both academically and athletically. As an orange headed man in DC would tweet: Sad!

Agreed when it comes to basketball. Academics are another story entirely.
Interestingly, I once heard from someone who claimed to be knowledgeable that Fr. McFarland (who had spent several years in a senior academic position at Gonzaga before becoming HC's president) had once said that Gonzaga had sold out to the athletic department and that he would not let that happen at HC. For what it's worth.

Re Gonzaga: "In the fall, the school broke ground on a new basketball practice facility that also will house a Hall of Fame, and in the spring a new performing arts center will begin to take form." Hmmmm. Sounds familiar.

That is quite an interesting article to say the least !
Using me as 1 small example, prior to a couple years ago I had heard of Gonzaga but was unsure of where it was located....guessing it was somewhere around San Francisco. Now I know where it is and via this article, now aware of it's history.

How about Smith Labs, Smith Hall, Figge Hall, and Williams Hall Also not sure if Stein Hall predated him or if he was responsible for that too. There was a lot of construction during his tenure |

There was a lot of construction during his tenure Stein predates Fr, McFarland. It may have been the last building constructed under Fr. Brooks as I think it opened in 1989 and I don't recall any other buildings opening until Williams in 2003. |
