I figure that this game deserves it's own thread! How do you guys handicap tonight's game? I expect a close, hard fought contest, with Gonzaga seeking out the win!

Our friend Ken Pomeroy calculates that UNC has the country's 7th best offense and 16th best defense while Gonzaga is 12th best on offense and #1 for defense. He projects a Gonzaga 79-75 win.

Massey makes Gonzaga a 5 point favorite (79-74) with a 67% chance for the win.

In the real world where it matters UNC is currently at -1. Good luck finding anyone willing to give you UNC grabbing 4.

Gonzaga would join HC, San Fran, GTown and Loyola-Chicago in the Jesuit pantheon.

Can Zag contain Meeks? Can they contain NC's offensive rebounding?

Gonzaga would join HC, San Fran, GTown and Loyola-Chicago in the Jesuit pantheon. You left out Marquette. Al McGuire's club bested UNC (I think) in the mid-70s.

Meeks had a great semi he averages 12.7 ppg, 3rd on the team. He is their leading rebounder at 9.4

Dud of a championship, after a very entertaining tournament. Too bad.
I'm not one to b*tch and whine about officiating, but they appear to have completely lost control of this game.

On the contrary, to prevent the game from getting out of control, they keep calling fouls.

Zags shooting 18% in 2nd half. Not a misprint.

UNC has missed 9 free throws and 20 3's, yet is up 2 with 4 minutes left.
This officiating is just awful.

Not good officiating, but with both teams going inside on most possessions, a very hard game to ref.

IMO, Gonzaga not having Collins in the second half was the difference in the game. Their defense was excellent, and UNC's offense was absolutely atrocious. If Collins played 14-15 minutes in the second half (10+ more than he did), I think the Zags win going away. I really hope Collins stays in school and doesn't go to the NBA wasteland. He would be fun to watch for the next 3 years.
Feel for Gonzaga and Mark Few, as he outcoached Roy Williams by a mile tonight. I was really impressed with the way they played D, and in particular the way Williams-Goss played Jackson.

Most of Collins' fouls were legit. He did not play smart when he was in foul trouble. I too hope he returns. Williams -Goss also. not so sure about Roy being so outcoached. UNC got some great shots off plays at the end, especially the biggest by Hicks.

Refs ruined the game. The teams had tons of aggressive bigs, on both offense and defense. You have to let them play. Going to the rim to draw a foul is NOT interesting bball. It's boring as hell. Yet it became the dominant strategy. So great players that everyone wants to see have to sit on the bench. If a player knows he's not going to get the foul call, we won't see so many ridiculous kamikazee plunges that are ruining the game.
