Grentz had a lot of issues with players while at Illinois and was eventually pushed out. I thought it was a bit surprising that LC hired her, and she seems to have had her issues with LC players as well. Their AD has now swung and missed twice in a row on high profile women's basketball coaches who had been pushed out of their former jobs. With the amount of money they are paying Grentz, they may not be able to pay above scale for her successor - unless she was fired for cause and they can make it stick.

Grentz, for those who don't follow women's basketball, is in the HOF and coached the U.S. 1992 Olympic team. Led Immaculata to three national titles as a player and also coached Rutgers to a national title. Her career as the Illinois coach started well but ended badly, with a lot of losses and a lot of allegations of player abuse. Lafayette hired her as head coach after an eight year hiatus and one season as a LC assistant.

This would signal a gear shift from previous hires but it may serve them well to look at a successful and rising D2 or D3 head coach with experience building a program and taking it to the NCAA Tournament.

Bruce Grentz '73 is Karl's cousin, and is presently pastoring a church in North Dakota, and yes has two small children. He did attend Cardinal O'Hara prior to coming to HC.
Lafayette is in a bad way these days. You think HC has too many losing programs ? just take a look over there. Still hard to accept that two of Grentz's four wins this year came in Worcester. I hope ADNP has had a sit-down with BG recently.

New LC coach is Kia Damon, who was the #1 assistant at Cincinnati this year after spending nine years at PSU and five at UMass as an assistant. Don't know how she'll do - but she is clearly a much better choice than their previous two coaches (Dianne Nolan and Grentz). www.gobearcats.com/sports/w-baskbl/mtt/kia_damon_1019597.html

Top projected returning player Oliva Gumbs transfer out to GW. Tough loss as I think they also had a recruit decommit.

Top projected returning player Oliva Gumbs transfer out to GW. Tough loss as I think they also had a recruit decommit. They had a recruit decommit (a PG from Indiana). Also had a 6-5 center from Canada (Angela Ribarich) transfer out. She was on the all-rookie team two years ago, but saw her playing time decline. LC won only 4 games this past season, including a 22 game losing streak. May struggle to win that many this year.

Two of those wins against HC I believe..... Just like baseball ...although it ended up not hurting the baseball team at all.

Two of those wins against HC I believe..... Just like baseball ...although it ended up not hurting the baseball team at all. Well, it was the Lafayette series that kept HC from a wine season record, I believe. But I like the final outcome a lot more than any overall record. With our last two NCAA teams going to the tournament with losing season records, are we seeing the start of a new HC tradition?
