We are not going to be in the running for many players recruited by PC and Uconn, even if they have the grades.

45 - if you're saying HC was asleep at the switch on him, if he is good enough to play at UConnvict or Prov, very doubtful he would have ever considered HC.

Why would he choose the Patriot League if he can play at UConn or Providence? I believe he made the right move.

I don't think 45 was hinting the kid would ever consider HC, just informing everyone about a city kid who will be playing for a major conference.
I was happy for Makai when he signed at UConn. Not so much that he's headed to PC. The NCAA might have too much of a stranglehold on these kids, but giving your word should mean something. Did losing an assistant coach really fundamentally change UConn or was it just an excuse for buyer's remorse?

Do not know if this was the case here, but many recruits get very closely tied to the assistant who constantly calls, texts, visits, emails, snail mails, etc

we know there is turnover in many rosters, but it looks like uconn's will be more than normal, and that has to be a concern. maybe the kid decided road trips to houston, dallas, nola, memphis, wichita, etc.. was not that great an idea. I think uconn will continue to regret not finding a way back into the big east and play football (as navy does) only in the aac

The bold and underline is mine and says exactly what I meant when I posted and only slightly wondered if we had contacted him at all. Though it is most often the case that someone of his caliber would definitely want to play at a much higher level than the PL, sometimes it can work in your favor - CJ McCollum!
When I saw this kid play as a HS Frosh you could tell that he was going to be special. I think around that time we were pursuing another local player AJ Brodeur who played at my former employer Algonquin Regional.

We did offer Brodeur, but I'm not sure we ever had much of a shot at him. Brodeur is one of a small, but growing number of high academic recruits who have drawn high major interest and offers, but choose to go to the Ivy League - with these kind of kids, Holy Cross is caught between a rock and a hard place. Brodeur had a very successful freshman year at Penn, averaging 30mpg, 13ppg and 7rpg.

What will get us out of "between a rock and a hard place" is WINNING and some CHAMPIONSHIPS and maybe an upset or two of the big boys. When and if things get in that mode, then the type of player you allude to may think differently and WANT to be part of the program !

Right now Northfield Mt Hermon (where Brodeur went) is like the farm team for the Ivy League. At one point in the last couple of years I believe there were over 20 grads playing on IL teams.
