You have a better chance of hitting the lottery and getting zapped by lighting on the same day than you do of ever seeing Richmond in the PL.

I'm of the thought that UR's interest in the PL would only ever be football only (edit: and women's golf), it would be tied at the hip with W&M and would rely solely on the implosion of the CAA in football.

The article once again makes clear what a conundrum football is at the FCS level with respect to conference affiliation.
It's about time schools/conference recognize that and embrace it by creating football conferences that have nothing to do with other sports - kind of like the CAA has done and what the PL was originally supposed to be. In CAA football, there are 12 schools from 4 conferences
CAA - 5 America East - 4 A-10 - 2 Big East - 1
Heck, the PL has 7 schools from 3 conferences in FB - PL, A-10, & Big East. Throw out all current FCS FB conference affiliations and re-create them based on to some degree on geography, school type, and academic/athletic philosophy.
And to that end, based on what's reported here, it would seem that the primary issue blocking any combination of W&M, Richmond, and/or Villanova from coming to the PL for football only is non-medical redshirting, that can be overcome. And the PL should not be so insistent on full membership at this time. I hope the conversations are happening.

Are we switching to redshirting carte blanche? Bill & Mary and ur often compete well against d1 because they redshirt liberally.

I've heard no suggestion that we have received the go-ahead to begin aggressive red-shirting

Not saying that at all ncaam.
Of course the UR, W&M, and Nova football COACHES don't want red shirt restrictions, don't want an AI, etc. BUT if the administrations at those schools want a level academic playing field for recruits, it's something for the ADMINISTRATIONS of those schools have to consider accepting them.
By the the same token, I think the PL leadership has to consider change as well if they want to further stabilize/enhance the membership as a football conference - i.e., if 4 years in to scholarships ALL you have to do (now) is allow "carte blanche red shirting" to add say W&M & Richmond to the PL for football, it would be foolish to not consider it.

They don't want a Level playing field. They want to beat the University of Virginia. They want to beat other Division 1 schools. They want to be a top team FCS. What they don't want is the Patriot League.

Who is this they you refer to? Fans and some alumni. Sure. But show me where the UR "Powers That Be" even imply such a desire to beat UVa in football. Being competitive at the highest level of FCS football certainly doesn't cross that line. First line in the article suggests there is at least reason to believe that there is a least some level of doubt as to what UR wants to be This article goes on to say The footbal coach quit last December (my emphasis): www.richmond.com/sports/college/schools/university-richmond/university-of-richmond-ad-keith-gill-resigns-amid-unrest/article_83d4e2e7-de10-560c-942d-04a287f46d46.htmlSo, a commitment to success in A-10 basketball (where they could be expected to beat UVa) could mean a choice to only slightly lower their odds of beating UVa in football by joining the PL where they could still be pretty competitive in FCS. Am I suggesting a switch is likely? No. If I'm the UR President or on the BOT, is it a question worth asking & exploring? Yes. That's all I, or anyone else is saying.

As the article noted, "Richmond displayed where it was headed in athletics in 2012 when the decision was made to add men’s lacrosse and scrap men’s indoor and outdoor track and soccer."
Essentially, the Spiders were capping how much they would spend on athletics.
DeGioia very much wanted them for NBE, but Richmond said, No.

Will I be seeing your dad again at football games in the fall? Have we started making money in The Patriot League?

Nope but we lose less than they do in the CAA.
