Coaches currently coaching who would be available by early December would be Ivies, and the bottom half of FBS. There would also be coaches from FCS who didn't make playoffs or exited FCS playoffs in first round.

Actually guys when Vaas was fired at the end of the 1995 season, the only coach that stayed on was strength coach Jeff Oliver, who also stayed on through the Gilmore transition, as has been the only coach that has remained since that era. Makes sense, doesn’t it?
Different teams do this different ways. None of us have any clue what ADNP has planned. Could be partial cleaning of the house or total.

It's better to get the right coach than hire someone because of the time of year.

It's better to get the right coach than hire someone because of the time of year. ADNP should be and probably is focused exclusively and intently on finding ONE coach right now - the head coach. Whomever that is should be someone with the contacts and experience to be able to direct the recruitment and hiring of assistants. I suspect the recent assistant coach hire is a stop gap for the rest of the season, who may or may not be re-hired pending the evaluation by the new coach.
Jeff Oliver is a coach with responsibilities to all the teams at HC, not just football, and is also very good, so it made sense before and will possibly make sense again that he will remain on staff as the S&C coach. He suited up once for the alumni game and was legit. Also, Dan Allen once put on pads and played with the team during practice, when he was very healthy, little known story.

There will be no shortage of applicants for the Holy Cross FB head coaching job! No doubt. But will a sitting and very successful FCS head coach apply? Probably not. How about an OC/DC at an FCS power ((Villanova/UNH/William and Mary -type)? Probably. How about an OC/DC successful Ivy? Maybe. Seen that before . How about a successful OC/DC FBS academic school? Maybe. How about an up and comer D-II? Maybe. I've noticed up-and-comer coaches really eyeball chances for success...one bad move can set their career trajectory on hold. Or kill it. And potential coaches definitely eyeball the player cupboard, recruiting options/hindrances, upcoming schedule, facilities, head and assistant salaries, etc. etc. This is not necessarily the job for everyone - even those we may want may not want us. And they'll be many who want us and let's hope we pick the right one.

Also hope they take their time and don't rush just because of the signing period. Can be a difficult spot for NP to be in. Is anyone going to be in charge of recruiting in the meantime?

While current success as a head coach would be optimal for me (all things being equal) ....don't see that without looking D-II. (Rick Carter model). Current success at FBS/FCS OC/DC would be second to optimal (all things being equal) for me...perhaps we'll see that in this applicant pool. IMHO dynamic personality and recruiting chops would be qualities (all other things being equal) to distinguish between the candidates from these two groups. (On an unrelated note, this year's nemesis Yale continues to roll and last night were again led by their frosh running back.)

Division II playoffs extend to mid-December, so we may not be able to get Assumption's Chesney until then. Local teams don't do that well in those playoffs. Don't think they play by the same rules, scholarship-wise, as most of the country and are at a competitive disadvantage. Advancing a round or two (out of 5) would be a big accomplishment. So I'd guess he'd be available sooner than you think. No reason if they are interested in the guy they can't interview him sooner anyway.

Not referring to any specific candidates (and don't know any either) but the concern on the hiring timeline is often an onboard/ recruiting concern rather than an interviewing concern.

Three criteria I would expect would be high on ADNP's qualifications list.
1.) Experience in recruiting nationally, or at least regionally in an area of the country where high school football is still king.
2.) Experience recruiting at an institution with high academic standards, because of the AI constraint.
3.) Experience coaching at a school with a high APR.

I would expect that any of the very serious candidates for the next head coach would know all of these parameters.
This should be a very sought after position imo. I know I view this through purple lenses, but, for a variety of reasons, the Holy Cross football job will be highly coveted by many.

Lots of pros and cons to the HC job. The new facilities are obviously spectacular. The AI constraints and lack of redshirting are obviously big drawbacks if the goal is to compete with the top FCS teams.

I know I view this through purple lenses, What distinguishes your purple lenses is that they're calibrated on yesteryear. And pretends H.C.'s past few decades are an aberration. I don't think the rest of the collegiate world looks at it that selectively.

I don't think the rest of the collegiate world looks at it that selectively. Perhaps, but with scholarships back, it changes the equation a bit. We still have restraints that we didn't have prior to 1992 but they aren't anywhere near as bad as they once were imo...it's interesting that guys like realism etc are so quick to harp on HC...I think they know that HC is the sleeping giant in Patriot League football and are trying to tamp that down as much as they can.

Realism is not an HC fan. Doesn’t make him unique among his fellow alums from other PL schools.
