If you think NP (or any D1 AD) gets deep into the weeds of this type of thing you're wrong.

ACTP, I do not recall ever reading from you or anyone else here that this was not Nate's idea.
However, if you think or believe that Nate did not, at minimum, "sign off" on his subordinate's idea, then either you or Nate have no idea what management is about. Nate was "out there" frequently talking about the TT. He could have killed this before it ever got started. It's "on him."
Don't get me wrong. No one is harmed by this. It is just ridiculous to participate in a challenge in which you have no chance of competing in. Remember the scene from "The Untouchables" when Sean Connery basically says "if he brings a fist, you bring a knife; if he brings a knife, you bring a gun" to a fight? We are coming to this fight with a knife and BU has the gun.

I don't understand why people trash this. Everyone complained there were no local rivalries in the Patriot League. Well you got one. It would be nice if HC wasn't awful at everything and it was competitive.
"We stink so lets take our ball and go home"....great attitude.

Didn’t see last night’s game or the graphic but I agree wholeheartedly that it’s embarrassing. The thing that bothers me the most about a graphic like that is that it leaves the impression on the uninitiated viewer that BU is and has been historically dominant in sports vs. HC when, in fact, at least in football and men’s hoops the opposite is true. Let’s get rid of the trophy and start racking up a few Ws in hoops vs. the Terriers.

Trying to "make" a rival is as vapid as giving yourself a nickname that you think is cool. I'm looking at you, Kobe "Black Mamba" Bryant. The play on the court has made Bucknell, and to a lesser degree Lehigh, with American 3rd (in my opinion) our rivals in basketball. And Bucknell and Lehigh's continued success has not meant that we are on equal footing, let me be clear. I don't think we have a football rival, but again, for their successes and how often we play them, I would put Colgate first and maybe Fordham second.

What’s a bigger farce — The Turnpike Trophy or ConFLiCT?

It does make sense that HC and BU should develop some sort of rivalry if we're going to be the only New England schools in the PL. Apparently BU is taking that more seriously than HC. They ran a great promotion for the men's hoop game at BU and got the place rocking for a mid week game against a team fighting for the basement.
Yup it's bad that they beat us 2-0 this year in the top tier sports (football + mens hoops) - especially since it's a down year for them
HC beat them 2-0 on what I would consider 2nd tier sports (men's hockey, women's hoops, and baseball)
After that come the sports that for the most part only the families of the participants care about. And BU routinely whallops HC here and the graphic looks bad. However, even those of us on the board who are all a little bit looney about HC sports pay minimal attention to the minor sports. Sure we would like to see the HC lacrosse team to do well and beat BU (and everyone else), but I can honestly say I have never watched on line or attended an HC lacrosse game.

Word out of Colorado Springs is that Air Force and the University of Colorado will be competing for the “Buffalo Chip Championship” beginning in 2019-20. Should be exciting.

Tom, when did BU beat Holy Cross in football? I guess I missed it.

Tom, when did BU beat Holy Cross in football? I guess I missed it. They didn't. They beat HC twice in men's hoops to go 2-0 for the year in what I labeled the top tier sports. By the same token, BU doesn't play baseball so the year is over for the second tier as well. This works on the assumption that any potential PL tournament games are not part of the Turnpike Trophy
