I have always admired Cooz as an athlete and as the fine man that we know him to be. I still remember every detail of my first meeting him in Chestnut Hill when (sadly) he was head coach at BC and just starting to build the Eagles into a respectable program. He was willing to spend time with a young college sports editor and answered every question I asked.

Too bad "The Crusader" (the college student newspaper, not the mascot ) stopped archiving older editions at about 1991 as in 1997 or 1998 there was a two part interview with the Cooz that most would probably still find interesting.

I remember an interview with Bob Cousy (he went to all the games at Worcester Auditorium sitting courtside), likely in my sophomore or junior year when HC had such a bad W-L record in one of George Blaney's first two seasons. He was asked something along the lines of "What's wrong with Holy Cross?" or 'What does HC need to do to improve?", implying there was some mystery about the cause of the poor record. Cooz responded most succinctly: "Holy Cross needs to get some better players". Fortunately we did, with Chris Potter and Mike Vicens coming on scene.

Another speaker at the 67 reunion was Frank Velaccio. Addressing the student body profile, he said that there are too many need based students compared to full payers, that it is not sustainable. Thus he posed the question as to how to get more applicants and thus hopefully more full payers. #1 in his list of answers was athletics. #1 Soften the seminary-like aura. #2 Address the vestiges of the Irish aura. In other words, reduce the parochialism.

This is just one topic on this board that I would love to have remain on topic. Terrific friends from several classes, gorgeous campus, amazing HC staff, and $10 mill donated, a record ... Four days on campus without having to leave, doesn't get any better than that

Absolutely, Lou. A great event all around. I sent in my feedback survey yesterday. Thanks to everyone, especially classmates, for a great weekend.
