While we may have some older posters on Crossports, it appears to me that the Class with the most Crossporters are from the Class that gave us Ralph Willard, Chris Matthews, Jack Lentz and many other luminaries.
They were seniors when I was a freshman and I salute them for their leadership both on Mt. St. James and their careers and lives afterward.
They were installed as "Purple Knights" this weekend celebrating 50 years since their graduation. Kudos!

Thank you,sader1970 Some of those other luminaries include Kevin Condron, who, with Jack L, makes us the only HC class with 2 chairs of the Board. We also have current Board member Stu Graham.and former 24 year Congressman Jim Moran We just set a school record for our contribution.

Thank you Sader70. Sorry we didn't get a chance to meet this weekend. The reunion was great and we can still connect on Crossports!

Thank you sader1970! Well said! Stopped by the bookstore a couple of times but didn't see you.
As Bob (didn't get to see him either) said, the weekend was fantastic! We got to see many classmates that we had not seen since the day we graduated in 1967!
The atmosphere was great, the weather broke in our favor starting on Thursday with the golf outing, the food was excellent as always and camaraderie superb!
If you ever want to get a large group of people seated quickly, use Fr. Boroughs line: "Please be seated, the last one to sit will make a $50, 000.00 contribution to the Holy Cross Fund"!

. . . . . what most of you didn't get was - - - - he was serious! Sorry, I didn't get to see you guys. As I found out afterwards when I asked why Fr. Boroughs couldn't make at least a cameo appearance at our IVC presentation since HC is one of only 4 Jesuit colleges & universities to "partner" with the IVC, I was told he would have but had a prior commitment with "some other group." I joked it was the Cornerstone Society members ($1 million + donors) like Lentz and Park Smith but assume it was the '67 group as a group. I did go down to Cool Beans after our gig since it was the only thing open for non-reunion folks. I also made a short but always obligatory trip to the bookstore to see what was new. The book signing was canceled as they did not have enough of the books in stock to make it worthwhile for the author or bookstore. I did see Crucis on my way out. He seemed to be enjoying his reunion. Hey, 3 more years and I get to be a "Purple Knight." Hmmm. "Crusader" traded in for a politically correct "Purple Knight?" "Black Knight" seems to work for the "Army West Point" crowd.

I note on the reunion calendar this event on Saturday.
"Come mingle with Director of Athletics Nathan Pine, his senior administration and our coaches. Nathan Pine will give a brief recap of the year and a look ahead at the upcoming season and timeline for the Luth Athletic Complex!"
Did any Crossports member go? Edit: From reading other posts, it appears HG87 and lou attended.

Many, inc myself, chose to attend the Matthews debate, at the same time

I went to see Chris as well. That was a tough choice, but it was worth seeing the discussion.

Actually, both were partial conflicts. The talk overlapped the beginning, since it was to be for one hour but went for 80 minutes - roughly. No one left early. Then getting to the Class Mass on time did not leave time for attendance at the other event. The "debate" (too polite and mutual respectful to be called a true debate - refreshing) was to end after an hour, but it went a bit over and it was time well spent.

OK, guess I will be the one to ask . . . . did Matthews "debate" with himself or was there an opponent? If so, who was it and what was the specific/general topic? Finally, who "won" if that is not a political question. Dean, your honor, please give us some leeway here as this is about a reunion and Holy Cross . . . and the great Class of 1967!

The general topic was politics in the "Age of Trump.' Comments from both presenters and the audience were interesting and, while showing a wide range of opinion, the discussion was most informative.

As comments and questions from the large audience were encouraged, Classmate and Former 12 term Congressman Jim Moran brought the discussion into a non partisan common ground of a Jesuit and Holy Cross perspective of Community. That was followed by other insightful comments on that topic. It was mostly a civil discourse, quite different from the current talk radio/cable news battle.

Sorry, hoops, the system only allows me to put one thumbs up to your last post or it would've gotten two from me. As for Chris, while his brother is a classmate of mine, as I think I have posted before, I met Chris but once and chatted with him at a PC reception for about 15 minutes and found him engaging and . . . . wait for it . . . . modest and humble! If it weren't for his obvious pride in Holy Cross, I might have thought it was an impersonator.

"The Chris Matthews Indoor Track Center," bubble over the current Hart Turf Field & Track (not to be confused with Northeastern's Matthews Arena)

Hey, 3 more years and I get to be a "Purple Knight." Hmmm. "Crusader" traded in for a politically correct "Purple Knight?" "Black Knight" seems to work for the "Army West Point" crowd. Back in 1967, when I worked at the reunion, there were references to the graduates from 1917 and earlier as the "Old Guard." As for becoming a "Purple Knight," hopefully, none of the politically-correct faculty and administrators on campus decide that any martial references such as "knights" are inappropriate and "divisive," and should be replaced. They'd probably be happy if all 50-year graduates received a purple-and-white panda lapel pin and were then inducted into the Order of the Purple Panda.

Another speaker at the 67 reunion was Frank Velaccio. Addressing the student body profile, he said that there are too many need based students compared to full payers, that it is not sustainable. Thus he posed the question as to how to get more applicants and thus hopefully more full payers. #1 in his list of answers was athletics.

An added bonus to the weekend was at our dinner at the Worcester CC on Thursday. A few of us were blessed to meet the "Cooz" who was dining in an adjoining room. A thrill for me. He was friendly and giving of his time, esp since he was eating. What huge hands !

Other luminaries at the reunion weekend were Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey '82 and former New York Congressman Tim Bishop '72. Senator Casey was the speaker when my daughter graduated in 2009 and did a great job, in my opinion. I love the stories about the encounter with The Cooz!!!
