Last weekend, my wife and I flew from Illinois to HC to attend my 40th reunion so I will recount it briefly. This was my first reunion! Friday night we attended the dinner in Kimball, great food offerings, and met many of my classmates, several I never had the opportunity to speak to while at The Cross but the ice was broken! This was a great event. Saturday morning I went to the reception in Carlin for the NROTC grads and met classmates and older and younger grads. I was a USMC officer. Good event also with many high caliber grads in attendance. I then attended the Athletic Director's talk in the Bud Ryan Room while my wife did her daily walk up and around campus which she thoroughly enjoyed. Prior to ADNP's remarks, I introduced myself to Coach Carmody and I asked him if they were actively recruiting Chicago Catholic League players and he said yes they are involved in Illinois. I told him I used to see him on the BIG10 Network while he coached Northwestern. He was congenial. I don't recall anything earth shattering about NP's comments although he said improvement is occurring. After this, my wife and I visited the Bookstore and stocked up on HC gear for ourselves and our children; the Athletic Department also was selling gear at discounts so we bought nice Under Armour type rowing shirts for $5 each as well as a nice HC gym bag for $15 as well as the obligatory HC hats and I had to get one that had The Cross on the front!!. We then attended the picnic in the quad which was another great social event with food and a good IPA. Not being shy, I saw Coach Gilmore and introduced myself and again asked him about recruiting Chicago Catholic League players beside the Loyola crew. He mentioned Hinsdale Central recruits and I told him I knew about them from breezy's efforts on Crossports! He said they're in tune with the CCL and even mentioned my school, Providence Catholic, which currently has one player at ND and one at Iowa. Saturday evening we attended the reception outside Hogan and then the 1977 dinner in Hogan. I was so thankful to have attended this reunion and to have reconnected with mates and others I never spoke to or met while at the Cross. We attended Mass Sunday morning in the Mary Chapel and then walked up the Hill to see all the athletic fields. The campus looks great and there have been many changes since my last visit 12 years ago for a football game. Oh, I met Mr. Crossports, a classmate and former officer also, and we discussed Crossports and the sports teams!!! Well, hope you enjoyed this synopsis and I hope to make a football game this fall. Go Cross Go!!
