Maybe when Bilk Adams was on the Bills and Pat Bourque on the A’s??? I’ll swag 1976 for that
Or maybe Adams and Mike Hegan??

Here's a good trivia question: Until this year (Raymond and Miller), what was the last year HC had representation in two major league sports? I can only think of 4 or 5 pro anything's since 1980, so my guess is obviously prior to that. Gary W and Doug Cosbie, Dallas Cowboys-1982-83

1977 Adams and Mike Pazik/Mike Hegan. Bourque gone by 1977. Thanks for finding Hegan...I would have guessed he retired no later than Bourque did. Of course, if Cosbie played a ballgame for HC, then that person is correct. I don't know if he did. It says he played 3 years for Santa Clara, so if he played for HC, it would have been 1975, as his rookie year for the Cowboys was 1979. That means Doherty recruited him?

Very odd....Cosbie is listed as just "Cosbie"...no first name.

We might have come close in an NHL & NFL pair with Patrick Rissmiller and Chandler Fenner but I think they missed overlapping by a year or two

I'm really happy for Malcolm. It's really amazing how far he has come as a player. It really wasn't until midway through his junior season to he really begin to come into his own. Now, he's in the NBA. Damn.

I'm not an NBA fan but I'm certainly proud and excited about Malcolm's hard work and talent paying off with this move to the league. It will be fun to follow his play this year.

I now wish he had prepped a year after high school.....oh well. He certainly would have benefited. I think his only offers coming out of high school were HC and Youngstown State. I honestly thought he was going to be nowhere more than an average PL player after his freshman and sophomore seasons, but once he realized he had to be "the guy", he really took off. Even still, Malcolm maxed out as just an All-PL second-teamer. Imagine that, a guy on an NBA roster who didn't make all-league in his low-major conference.

Ken Pom's "ORatings" for MM were as follows
Freshman= 94.0 Soph= 86.7
Of course he did not play that many minutes those first two years
Junior= 110.4 Senior= 110.2
Let's not forget the usual caveats: captures only offense, misses other factors, who knows what the weightings are, etc. Still, we see how much he improved on this one metric. For perspective, Keith Simmons was 120.3 as a senior, CJ McCollum was 115.7, Mike Muscala was 117.1

It's gotta be him. Rules at the time required one to sit out a year after transferring, regardless of division (in this case, it was from D1 to D2). So Cosbie was a player for HC in 1974, then Santa Clara in 76-77-78. I guess Ed Doherty did recruit a decent ballplayer or two in his final years at HC. Wonder how they got him, West Coast guys were few and far between back in those days.

There are currently 3 active Patriot League alum in the NBA now with MM, CJ McCollum and Mike Muscala. Prior to this, our only NBA player was Adonal Foyle, who dropped jaws nationally as a high school senior by turning down Coach K and Duke to play at home in Hamilton.
