The game is about 5 weeks away and saw nothing from Holy Cross about getting a block of tickets so that Purple fans can sit together, so I sent an e-mail inquiring what's the story. The response: Anyone else planning on going besides me?

It's the week leading up to Labor Day so one of the busiest of the year for me work-wise BUT I'll definitely be making the time to get to East Hartford that Thursday evening. Look forward to setting in the purple section.

I'll be working the Dell Technologies Golf Tournament (formerly the Deutsche Bank), part of the FedEx Championship, that week. However, I'll be at the UConn game in East Hartford with a couple of others in tow. It will be interesting to see the stadium because years ago my uncle worked at Pratt Whitney and lived a couple of streets over from Silver Lane.

I will be there. I grew up in East Hartford about four miles from the stadium. It is a great place to see a game, but getting out after the game can be a little slow depending on the crowd size. I usually park down Silver Lane a quarter mile or so toward Manchester at a private lot and walk in. It saves a lot of time and frustration.

UConn picked to finish last in the AAC East division. This is a game we are supposed to be competitive in with five years of scholarships.

UConn has 30 players from New England on 94 man roster.......l We should blow them out then!!! Again, I'd be happy with a somewhat competitive game. We have played some very good/athletic teams ovah the last 5 or so years (UNH, Towson, Harvard) but probably no one that has had the overall athleticism/depth that UConn will have.

Required Attitude of HC players: Let's Kick the Sh*t Out of Them. Attitude of UConn players as they leave the stadium: What the F*** just happened. Attitude of UConn Fans as they leave the stadium: Embarrassment. Randy Edsall's Preparation for facing the Press Post-Game: Double Shot of Chivas Regal.

UConn picked to finish last in the AAC East division. This is a game we are supposed to be competitive in with five years of scholarships. I'd guess a top CAA team could compete very well with UCONN. In fact, Maine lost by just 3 just year. I don't think our HC team has the across-the-board athletes needed to beat UCONN. Even with the full FCS schollies and (IMHO) a resurgent HC.

My prediction is that the game will be a LOT closer than the Fordham/Yankee Stadium game was.

My prediction is that the game will be a LOT closer than the Fordham/Yankee Stadium game was. Unfortunately, we could lose by 3 touchdowns and that would be an accurate prediction.

Raise your hand if you were at the last HC-UConn football game. I was there, miserable day, rainy....went down on a student bus....lost 22-2 I believe.. the ill-fated 1985 season. We had fun anyway....probably not one of our bettah WCHC broadcasts

Because I am a soothsayer. Ask anyone who sits by me at football games with my various predictions at halftime, what the next play called will be, etc., etc. Definition of soothsayer : a person who predicts the future by magical, intuitive, or more rational meanshoops, I didn't say the Crusaders would win, though I think that is a possibility because: 1. UConn has not been historically strong since going I-A 2. HC is now in its 5th year of schollies 3. I don't think UConn is going to have much of a home field advantage . . . we won't be playing at the equivalent of Ohio Stadium or Duke's notorious basketball home 4. HC was a better team than they showed last year because the team was bit unusually hard by the injury bug 5. Pujals is back as is Gabe Guild 6. It is the first game of the season which means neither team will be a "well-oiled machine" and mistakes can happen, maybe going our way for a change, and also being the first game of the season means that the advantage a I-A team has over a I-AA team in depth is somewhat negated and would have a much greater impact later in the season when injuries and fatigue come more into play.

With Edsal and Gilmore coaching this could be wild game....something like UConn 47 HC 27 with lots of turnovers.
Doesn't UConn have a good veteran RB ?

I think that all Cross fans need to remember their is a huge difference in an FBS program and an FCS. The size, speed and depth of FBS teams are a huge disadvantage for an FCS team. FCS teams will publish their two deep while the FBS has a three deep of talented athletes. Now I've been lucky enough to enjoy UNH winning 5 straight games over FBS competition but that hasn't happened in a while. It is a tough game and the best thing is to come out of it healthy, keep it close and collect the pay check and get ready for the next game.

I stand by what I said above. Not predicting a win but a much more competitive game than the blowout loss to Fordham.
I would and do feel better about our chances in years going forward. We are starting to recruit and get players who have offers at the next level and with the enhanced schedule and the draw of the LAC, I believe the level of play on the field will improve significantly. You can only have 11 players on the field at a time. Having 2 deep talent should be plenty against I-A teams in an early season game.
P.S. to UNH: How did your team win 5 in a row against the more powerful I-A teams?

P.S. to UNH: How did your team win 5 in a row against the more powerful I-A teams? They had a perennial top 10 FCS team and played Rutgers, Northwestern, Marshall, Army and Ball State. A top 10 FCS team can definitely compete with weaker FBS teams.

P.S. to UNH: How did your team win 5 in a row against the more powerful I-A teams? Honestly 70 it was the offense that Chip Kelly established at UNH. No one had really seen it before and we caught teams by surprise. Now we also had a kid named Ricky Santos who is probably the greatest QB in UNH history running the offense at the time. Once a lot of teams started running the open spread offense the UNH advantage went down hill and the depth of FBS teams and size proved to be too much. For example we got blown out by a bad San Jose State team the other year.

Top D-IAA teams can beat many D-IA teams (I prefer that to FCS, FBS), not just the weaker D-IA teams. Recall Michigan being shocked by Appalachian State? Holy Cross is not a top 10 D-IAA team but neither is UConn going to be a top tier D-IA team. Here is an interesting link: www.footballgeography.com/history-of-fbs-i-a-vs-fcs-i-aa/
