Only 3 pts ahead of Bucknell Little respect

Only 3 pts ahead of Bucknell Little respect Reality stinks. Not sure can expect any more respect based on our performace last year. If we were a few more points ahead of Bucknell would it really matter? We're where we should be on all the preseason polls. This season could be rough, next season rougher. Without radical improvement, 2019 could be hard to watch. We seem to be recruiting well for the long term, but as for the present I'm really hoping something we don't know about is happening, Fordham and Lehigh will be brutal opponents, 'Gate always has our number. Oh yeah, and the non-conference schedule. Hold on boys.

This year might be an example of having a comparatively very good team (for HC - considering the last 10 years) but still a weaker team than the majority of our opponents.

With just Nick on the all league preseason team and picking us a poor fourth it is obvious what the rest of the league thinks of us. The optimist in me says we are better than that. Is my optimism unfounded and seen through rose colored glasses. Please tell me that it is not. We all need a successful ( 6-5 .... 7-4 ?? ) season and deserve one after the last 6 !!

Where is ctg in his contract? It was not a good idea to extend him. Nate, alone, can't fire him if he is in the midst of a contract. Fr B seemed really happy with the Georgetown win.

Only 3 pts ahead of Bucknell Little respect With Bucknell having finished ahead of HC for three of the last four years, including last year, you might view it as getting a lot of respect.

Wonder how many times we've finished more than 1 position above where we were predicted to finish in the pre-season pole. Off the cuff I would say under current regime maybe never? To the optimists in the bunch I give you much credit, just not sure how anyone armed with the ample data of past seasons feels we have a good chance of competing for first place this season. Again, I hope I wrong.
P.S. if our 5th years do not stay healthy we will be competing against Georgetown for second to last place. Will GG get hurt yet again? I'm praying for him to not.

GG & 5 yr OL srs are the key to us having a creditable running game... but the D needs to be able to stop the run with out getting burned on big pass plays... so what's new??

To the optimists in the bunch I give you much credit, just not sure how anyone armed with the ample data of past seasons feels we have a good chance of competing for first place this season. Again, I hope I wrong. It's happened on four occasions. Year / Preseason / Final 2004 / 6th / 6th 2005 / 6th / 4th 2006 / 4th / 3rd 2007 / 4th / 2nd 2008 / 2nd / 2nd 2009 / 1st / 1st 2010 / 4th / 2nd 2011 / 3rd / 2nd 2012 / 2nd / 4th 2013 / 3rd / 6th 2014 / 6th / 5th 2015 / 6th / 4th 2016 / 3rd / 6th In 13 seasons, we have finished better than the preseason ranking seven times, worse three times, and the same three times. The trend from 2004 - 2011 was very good. Unfortunately, from 2012 - present, not so good.

It is 2016 that stands out for me...picked 3rd, finished 6th. Injuries are to blame for a large part of that...but not all. I hope 2017 starts a new trend.

Is it too early to say "wait 'til next year!"?

You will never say "wait til next year" this season as 18-19 will be a season with a new Qback and a new Coach.

It is what is....a daunting schedule this year given...I see 4-7 or 5-6....total broken record here, but what is it going to get Gilmore fired?
I know he's probably a good guy ....yada, yada, yada....but he's just not the guy to turn our football program around imo.....hopefully he proves me wrong.
I know we have to give him and the kids our support.....but seriously, what is the record this year that saves his job?

1-0 vs Gtown and if he has anything left on his contract.

Don't know precise record, but if we are picked pre-season 4th in the Patriot League and the team finishes 3rd (or 2nd - a very long shot I know) in the Patriot League...do his supporters at least have the argument that he exceeded expectations? Especially if some losses are close?
(edited with underlining to emphasize the two factors that would, IMHO, make it tough to make a case for getting rid of him)

I am afraid that "close losses" will not be enough for those who ant to see a change. This incoming class looks good, but most folks want to see it turned into wins, not close losses.

CTG won't have a hard time finding another head coaching gig in a FCS program or as an NFL asst. Do him a favor--seriously--of privately informing him that this will be his last season--no matter what his win-loss record is this season, so he can prepare for a move. He will have every reason to coach at his best this season, because it will be important on his resume.

Wrong. Tom's high water mark was winning the PL and playing the eventual D-IAA national champ, Villanova, close at their place in the NCAA first round playoff. Knowing Tom, he wants to have a great season for multiple reasons: 1. He loves Holy Cross and the kids that play for him; 2. He is driven, a competitor, who always wants to win and even when a loss is inevitable, he wants to play hard to the last down; 3. He wants to show that Nate's support was not misplaced; 4. He also knows that his time for moving on to bigger things career-wise has passed him by unless and until he again brings Holy Cross into Patriot League dominance, not "close losses" or "moral victories."
With the results over the last 3-4 seasons, if he were to leave, Tom would have to move down to D-2 or D-3.

8485- Thx for info. Is it possible that the only reason CTG is staying this season is that if he had been let go HC would have to be paying for two head coaches this season, one for former coach CTG under his contract and one for his successor?

HC paid 2 coaches in the same season - and more than TG makes - when NP launched MB.
