Grass is better for the players. Artificial is better for the fans. Decide whom you want to cater to. The players, 100%. They're playing the game, after all. Fans don't care about the surface.

Artificial provides a superior visual experience both for fans and for TV. Treat fans like they "don't care" and they will not care. I'm old enough to remember when you had to get splinters on your ass sitting in Fitton.

From another thread ... Big pro sports franchises and the big college programs have to realize that the world of amateur sports and non-big college programs is a different world from a commercial point of view. It just can't be driven by profit. Guess fans don't have to come to any realizations.

The potential fans that we all would like to attract to Fitton are not those whose blood is purple. They are individuals and families who have no direct connection to HC. They're seeking entertainment. It's unrealistic to expect them to care about how much lights cost, etc.

When will HC ever be on a TV station that you get in FL so you can experience the "beauty" of green plastic & black rubber?
You are the only "fan" I've ever come across who would rather watch a game played on oil-based products than on God's green earth - whether in person or on TV.
Thankfully NP did the right thing with brand 'spankin new GRASS.

Wasn't it Dick Allen who said "if a cow cant eat it I don't want to play on it"?
Crucis: Thanks for the clarification

The NFL is a multi zillion dollar business. As such, everything they do is carefully thought out. The root of their revenue is the advertisers who target the viewers at home, not in the stadia. The colors in NFL games on TV is total eye candy. What kind of turf is in NFL stadia?

Hopefully that puts a rest to your foolish argument.

The NFL is a multi zillion dollar business. As such, everything they do is carefully thought out. The root of their revenue is the advertisers who target the viewers at home, not in the stadia. The colors in NFL games on TV is total eye candy. What kind of turf is in NFL stadia? It's about 50/50 between grass and turf, depending on geography and climate. The best fields are generally in the South where they can grow Bermuda grass. The way the NFL business model has gone the last decade-plus, the entire game presentation is geared towards the at-home viewer and not the fan who bought a seat inside the stadium. Nobody will dispute that. But at the same time you're arguing that the fan experience depends on the field. Not true. If, for example, there's a playoff game and the combination of the play, weather and temperature tears up the field and it gets sloppy late, you could try to say that the fan's experience at that game was lessened because the field sucked. However, there are other factors in play there. But if you're arguing that the NFL teams by and large make decisions about grass vs. turf based primarily on fan reactions/experiences, that's not the case. EDIT: h/t to ACTP for the breakdown of grass vs. turf.
